MathPause – Website Overuse Blocker
Overview
MathPause helps reduce website overuse by adding a pause before distracting sites, with challenges, Stay Away, limits and schedules.
MathPause is a website blocker designed to help you reduce overuse of YouTube, social media, video sites, forums, and other distracting websites. Instead of giving you instant access, MathPause adds a pause between the impulse to open a site and actually using it. Depending on your settings, you can solve a problem, step away for a set period of time, follow a Daily Limit, or use stronger scheduled blocking. Rather than simply blocking websites, MathPause helps you create distance from impulsive browsing, reconsider whether you really want to continue, and build more intentional browsing habits. ## Main Features ### 1. Site Group-based blocking Organize restricted websites into Site Groups and apply different rules to each group. You can group sites by purpose, such as social media, video sites, news sites, or other distracting services. ### 2. Pause before access MathPause can add a small barrier before a restricted site becomes available. You can choose to: * solve automatically generated math problems * use your own custom questions * wait for a set period with Stay Away * require either a problem or Stay Away * require both before unlocking This lets you choose how much friction you want before accessing distracting websites. ### 3. Daily Limit for usage control Set how much unlocked time you want to allow each day. Daily Limits can be the same every day or configured by weekday. If you reach your limit but genuinely need more time, you can extend it from the restriction screen. This helps you stay aware of how much time you are giving to distracting websites without requiring a complete block. ### 4. Time Schedule for different parts of the day Control when each Site Group is restricted. You can use: * Normal restriction, where access is available after completing your selected unlock requirement * Hard Mode, where access is completely blocked * Open access, where the site can be used normally Schedules can be the same every day or configured separately by weekday. This is useful for study hours, work sessions, nighttime browsing, or other parts of your daily routine. ### 5. Cooldown to reduce repeated visits Cooldown prevents another unlock immediately after an unlock session ends. This adds a clearer break between browsing sessions and can help reduce the habit of repeatedly returning to social media, video sites, or other distracting websites. ### 6. Stay Away to create real distance Stay Away lets you intentionally step away from websites for a set period of time. You can apply it only to restricted sites or across browser pages. A completed Stay Away period can also be used as part of the requirement for unlocking a Site Group. This is useful when simply solving a problem is not enough and you want actual time away from browsing. ### 7. Hard Mode and Plan memo Hard Mode completely blocks access during selected periods when you want stronger protection from distractions. You can also use a Plan memo to write down why you are opening a site. When the unlock ends, MathPause shows the memo again so you can compare what you intended to do with how you actually used the site. ### 8. Popup and usage history The popup gives you a quick overview of your current MathPause status. You can check: * today's usage time * Daily Limit progress * unlock count * current unlock status * recent Usage history * Unlock history * Stay Away history You can also add the current website to a Site Group directly from the popup. ## Recommended For MathPause may be useful if you: * open YouTube or social media without thinking * want to reduce time spent on distracting websites * want something more flexible than complete blocking * want a pause before deciding whether to continue browsing * want stronger restrictions during study, work, or before sleep * want to become more aware of your browsing habits * find yourself repeatedly overriding simple website blockers ## Privacy MathPause does not collect or transmit personal data. Your settings, restricted sites, usage history, Daily Limit, streaks, and Stay Away records are stored locally in your browser.
