Overview

This extension allows users to effortlessly search and open links in Google Chrome through a simple drag and drop action.

Drag & Drop for Google Chrome™ — Search and Open Links With a Simple Gesture Stop copying, pasting, and right-clicking. Drag & Drop for Google Chrome™ turns the simplest gesture you already know into the fastest way to open links and search the web. Grab a link and flick it anywhere on the page, and it opens in a new tab. Highlight a word, a phrase, or an entire paragraph, drag it, and drop it — your favourite search engine opens instantly with the results. That is the whole idea, and once you have used it for a day you will wonder how you ever browsed without it. WHY YOU WILL LOVE IT Every day you probably open dozens of links and run dozens of searches. The traditional route is slow: select text, press Ctrl+C, open a new tab, click the address bar, press Ctrl+V, press Enter. That is six actions for a single search. Drag & Drop replaces all of them with one continuous motion of your hand. Multiply that saving across a research session, a shopping comparison, a study assignment, or a normal working day, and the minutes add up fast. KEY FEATURES • Drag any link, drop it anywhere — it opens in a fresh tab, no middle-click and no context menu required. • Drag selected text and drop it to search immediately. Works with single words, long quotes, product names, error messages, addresses and phone numbers. • Seventeen built-in search engines. Pick the one that matches how you actually search. • Directional search engines — the feature power users adopt first. Assign a different engine to each of the four drag directions. Flick text upward for Google, left for Wikipedia, right for Amazon, down for YouTube. One selection, four destinations, zero menus. The extension reads the direction of your gesture and routes the query accordingly. • Site search. Turn it on and every dropped selection is searched within the website you are currently reading, using the search engine you have chosen. Perfect for documentation, forums, wikis and large news archives that have poor built-in search. • Background or foreground tabs. Decide whether new tabs quietly stack up behind your current page so you can keep reading, or jump straight to the front. Hold Shift while you drop to override your setting for a single tab whenever you need to. • Choose where new tabs land. Open them immediately to the right of the tab you are on to keep related pages together, or send them to the very end of the tab strip to keep your current context untouched. • Per-site on/off switch. One click in the popup disables Drag & Drop on the page you are viewing and re-enables it just as easily, so web apps that rely on their own drag behaviour keep working exactly as their designers intended. • URL blacklist. Add any domain to a permanent exclusion list and the extension will stay out of the way there forever. Manage the whole list from the popup at any time. • Disable drag on linked images. If you prefer to drag pictures to your desktop or into another application the normal way, switch this on and image links behave natively again. • Light and dark themes. A single toggle in the popup switches the interface between a bright and a dimmed look, so the settings panel matches the rest of your browser. • Available in more than forty languages, including Arabic, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese, Korean, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Hindi, Turkish, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Hebrew, Persian and many more. The extension follows your Chrome language automatically. BUILT THE RIGHT WAY The extension is written on Manifest V3, the current and most secure Chrome extension platform. It works offline, respects incognito mode with a separate isolated session, and adapts to pages that load content dynamically so links added by infinite scroll and single-page applications remain draggable without a refresh. YOUR PRIVACY Drag & Drop does not collect, store, sell or transmit your browsing history. There are no analytics, no trackers and no third-party servers. Your settings — chosen search engines, direction mappings, tab preferences and blacklist — are saved with Chrome's own sync storage so they follow you to every computer where you are signed in, and nowhere else. GETTING STARTED Install the extension, open any web page, and drag a link. That is it. To personalise the experience, click the toolbar icon: pick your default search engine, map the four directions, decide where new tabs should appear, and add any sites you want to skip. Everything saves instantly. Whether you are researching, shopping, studying, coding or simply reading, Drag & Drop for Google Chrome™ makes every link and every search one smooth gesture away. Install it free today and give your mouse a much better job to do.
