WebCam for Google Chrome ™
Overview
Take selfies with your camera using our free fun effects.
WebCam for Google Chrome — Take Selfies With Fun Live Effects WebCam for Google Chrome is a lightweight, privacy-friendly camera booth that lives right inside your browser. Open it in one click, strike a pose, and capture selfies with fun real-time effects — Grayscale, Sepia, Invert, Hue, Blur, and Contrast — then save your favorite shots as high-quality PNG images. No sign-up, no uploads, and no complicated software: everything runs locally on your own computer. This release is our biggest quality update yet. We rebuilt the extension for the latest version of Chrome (Manifest V3) and fixed the issues that were getting in the way of a smooth, reliable experience — and we added a whole set of features our users have been asking for. What we fixed - The camera works again. The core selfie flow now launches reliably on modern Chrome. The Take Selfies button, the effect carousel, the intensity slider, and the capture buttons all initialize correctly, every time. - Your saved photo matches your preview. Previously, the effect you saw on screen was not written into the downloaded file. Now the exact filter you choose — and its intensity — is baked into the saved image, so what you see is what you get. - Friendly camera messages. If your camera is blocked, missing, or already in use by another app, you now get a clear, translated message and a one-click Retry, instead of a blank screen. - Capture right away. You no longer have to switch effects back and forth before taking a photo. The Normal look is selected by default, and the shutter is ready the moment your camera is live. - A proper reset. The Clear button now fully resets the effect, the slider, and the preview, so your next shot always starts clean. - Reliable toolbar state. The toolbar icon now correctly turns on when a session starts and off when you close the camera tab — no more stuck "on" icon. - Smarter theming. Automatic dark mode now follows your operating system's preference, and your manual light or dark choice is remembered correctly. - Under-the-hood cleanup. We removed unused code and libraries to make the extension lighter and faster to load, corrected several markup and configuration issues, tightened the extension's messaging security, and completed the interface translations across all 43 supported languages. What's new - Countdown self-timer. Choose a 3, 5, or 10-second timer, complete with an on-screen countdown and a shutter flash, so you have time to get into the perfect pose. - Mirror toggle. Flip the preview to a natural, mirror-style selfie view. What you see on screen is exactly what gets saved. - Camera and quality picker. Have more than one camera — a laptop cam and an external webcam? Pick the one you want to use, and choose your preferred resolution (480p, 720p, or 1080p) for sharper shots. - Webcam diagnostics. A live readout shows your camera name, actual resolution, frame rate, and aspect ratio — perfect if you just want to quickly test whether your webcam is working. - Copy and share. Copy your photo straight to the clipboard, or share it to another app in a single tap, without downloading it first. - Keyboard shortcuts. Press Space to capture, S to save, and the arrow keys to switch between effects. - Timestamped filenames. Every photo is saved with a date-and-time filename (for example, selfie_2026-07-21_14-30-05.png), so new shots never overwrite older ones. - Saved effect settings. Your slider adjustments are remembered between sessions, so your favorite look is ready the next time you open the camera. Private by design Your privacy comes first. All photo capture and all effects happen entirely on your device. Your webcam feed and your pictures are never uploaded to a server, never stored in the cloud, and never shared with anyone — they stay on your computer unless you choose to save or share them yourself. Perfect for - Quick, fun selfies with playful effects - Testing that your webcam works before a video call - Chromebooks and managed devices where installing a separate camera app is not an option Getting started is simple: click the toolbar icon, press Take Selfies, choose an effect, and click Take Photo. Adjust the intensity with the slider, set a timer if you like, and then save or share your favorite shots. We are committed to keeping WebCam for Google Chrome fast, reliable, and genuinely useful. This update lays a solid foundation, and we have more features on the way. If you enjoy the extension, please leave us a rating and a review — your feedback directly shapes what we build next. Thanks for using WebCam for Google Chrome. Now go take some great selfies!
