Overview
Save a Teams or Stream meeting recording as video, audio or a transcript with speaker names and timestamps.
Save a Microsoft Teams or SharePoint Stream meeting recording as video, as audio, or as a transcript with speaker names and timestamps — and copy the whole meeting as text into an AI chat in one click. The player has no single place to do that. This adds one item, Download, to the player's own command bar, on the right beside Share. ━━ HOW TO GET THERE ━━ 1. In Teams, open the meeting and go to its Recap tab. 2. On the recording, choose "Watch in browser". It opens in Chrome. 3. In the command bar, on the right beside Share, press Download. Already have the recording open in Chrome from SharePoint or OneDrive? Go straight to step 3. The Teams desktop app cannot run extensions, which is why "Watch in browser" is the route. ━━ WHAT YOU GET ━━ ▪ Video — a single flat file that plays anywhere and seeks properly. ▪ Audio — the meeting's audio on its own, with a correct duration. ▪ Transcript — with every speaker name and timestamp kept. As readable text, as Markdown for an AI assistant, or as subtitles for a video editor. Cues from the same speaker are merged into one turn, so it reads like a transcript, not a caption file. ▪ Word — a formatted document with a title block, each speaker's profile photo beside their turns, and grey timestamps. Ready to share or print. ▪ Copy for AI / Download for AI — the meeting as Markdown, on the clipboard or as a file. Paste it into your assistant and ask: "summarise this", "list the action items with owners". A one-hour meeting is roughly 12–15 thousand tokens; no prompt is added, the question is yours. ━━ HOW IT BEHAVES ━━ ▪ Sits in the command bar and follows the tenant's light or dark theme. Nothing floats over the player. In a narrow window it shrinks to its icon, as the player's own buttons do. ▪ The transcript row shows the format you used last and its language; the submenu holds the others. ▪ Every download opens a Save As dialog. All files share the recording's own name, so they sort together. ▪ Progress shows in a small corner panel while a download runs, with an estimate of the time left. A long recording can take a few minutes; keep the tab open until the Save As dialog appears. ▪ Quick on a quick connection. It fetches several pieces of the video at once, adds more while that keeps adding speed, and eases off when the server asks it to. We have seen a 90-minute meeting come down in under a minute; a slower connection takes longer, and the progress panel says how long. ━━ WHAT IT DOESN'T DO ━━ It saves what your browser has already loaded and is already showing you. If you can watch the recording and read its transcript, you can save them; if you cannot, the extension does nothing. It signs you in as nobody and opens nothing you could not open yourself. Use it for your own meetings and recordings you have been given access to, within your organisation's rules. A recording has other people in it — treat what you save accordingly. ━━ PRIVACY ━━ Everything happens in your browser. No server, no account, no analytics, no tracking. The extension contacts no AI service — "AI" in the menu is about where you take the text next. The speaker photos in the Word export are the ones the player's transcript pane already loaded; open the pane before saving or everyone gets an initials badge. Three permissions: downloads (the Save As dialog), storage (remembers your transcript format), clipboardWrite (used only when you press Copy for AI). ━━ WHERE IT WORKS ━━ ▪ SharePoint / OneDrive Stream player pages — the full menu in the command bar. This is what "Watch in browser" opens. ▪ The Teams meeting recap opened in a Chrome tab — the same choices in a small corner panel. If the transcript row has no language yet, open the player's transcript pane once, let it fill, and press again.
