UX Captions for Kick & Twitch — Live Subtitles & Chat Translation
Overview
Live captions and chat translation for Twitch and Kick. On-device by default, with optional cloud translation.
Follow Twitch and Kick streams with live captions and translated chat. Read in your chosen language, keep the original text in view, and translate a reply in the chat box you already use. Translation runs on your device by default. Connect your own cloud AI for captions and separately enable incoming cloud chat. With Gemini, Groq or OpenRouter selected, clicking UX Translate sends your draft and limited recent stream context to that model, even when cloud chat is off. Typing alone sends nothing to the translation provider. Raw stream audio stays on your device. LIVE CAPTIONS OVER THE PLAYER Start captions from the extension's toolbar popup. Whisper transcribes the stream locally; original and translated lines appear over the video. Choose the language, text size and position. READ THE CONVERSATION Read translations beneath the original chat messages. Chat can follow the caption languages or use its own. “Use cloud for chat” sends posted messages to your provider, including your own. REPLY IN TWITCH OR KICK'S CHAT BOX Look for the UX logo beside Translate. Translate your draft, then review, copy or undo the result. You decide when to post; the extension never presses Send. YOUR PROVIDER, YOUR MODEL Use Gemini, Groq or OpenRouter with your own key and chosen model. Keys and model choices stay on this device, separately for each provider. The guide beside the API-key field links to official setup instructions and usage limits. Google Translate API is also available with a key, alongside a free, unofficial Google caption-translation option. CATCH UP, THEN ASK Open Stream recap and choose On-device or your connected cloud model. Summaries and follow-up questions use that choice. Cloud mode sends the selected history, your questions and recent conversation text to your provider. History covers what the extension has observed, not a complete recording. PROCESSING YOU CONTROL Cloud chat and cloud recaps have separate switches. Cloud translation sends text and recent context to your provider and can fall back to ready on-device translation. If translation is unavailable, original captions/chat and your draft are kept. Cloud recap errors offer a retry or an explicit switch to On-device. Provider accounts, quotas and charges may apply. Turn on engine/model labels in Diagnostics if you want to see which route produced translations. Raw audio and optional visual samples are not uploaded. Outgoing drafts are sent only when you click Translate with a supported cloud AI model selected; they are not added to stream history or recaps. Settings may sync through Chrome; caption/chat history stays in memory unless you copy or export it. See the privacy policy for the complete data inventory and provider destinations. Before you start: - Requires desktop Chrome 138 or newer. Built-in translation/AI availability also depends on your browser build, device and language. - The first session downloads a speech model, approximately 80 MB–1.6 GB depending on the model and device. The popup shows the estimate and offers pre-download controls. Language packs may require additional downloads. - CPU fallback can be slower. Interim captions and speaker labels require a supported GPU. - Local recaps and questions require Chrome’s built-in AI. Captions and chat translation work independently of recap AI. - Available in 20 interface languages. Independent of and not endorsed by Twitch, Kick, Google or the streamers you watch.
