Melvin
Overview
Lets Melvin use the Chrome you are already signed into. It opens only the tabs a task needs, and never takes your screen.
Melvin is a Mac app that does things on your computer when you ask it to. This is the part that lets it use your browser. You need it because otherwise Melvin opens its own Chrome, which is signed out of everything. Fine for looking things up, useless for anything else. Your mail, your calendar, whatever internal tool your company runs on — all behind a login Melvin doesn't have. With this installed it just uses the Chrome you already have open. A few things about how it behaves. It opens tabs when a task needs them. It won't pull one in front of you unless you asked to be taken there. And there's a side panel, so you can give it a job about the page you're already looking at instead of describing it. It doesn't send anything anywhere. The only thing this extension connects to is Melvin running on your own Mac, over a connection that never leaves the machine. There's no server of ours involved. You can check that yourself: the whole bundle contains one address and it's 127.0.0.1. Before connecting, both ends prove they're who they claim to be, so another program on your Mac can't sit in the middle and help itself to your browser. While Melvin is driving, Chrome shows its own banner saying the browser is being debugged. We left that on. You should be able to tell when something else is using your browser. You'll need the Mac app: https://trymelvin.com/download Without it running, this extension does nothing at all.
