Overview

Tab manager: your open tabs as piles. Click to jump, the cross closes the pile. Local only.

Tab Manager: Duplicate Tabs & Tab Groups — a tab manager that turns a hundred tabs into a deck Too many tabs is not a discipline problem, it is a visibility problem. Twenty tabs look the same in a tab strip, so the one you need is the one you cannot find. A tab manager should not ask you to file anything by hand: it should show the shape of what you already have. Tab Manager is a vertical tab manager for Chrome that reads the list of your open tabs and draws them as piles, one pile per site or per window. That is the whole idea, and it takes one click to see it. Each pile is a site. Click a pile and the freshest tab of that site comes to the front — no hunting through titles. The small cross on the right closes the whole pile: the first click arms it and shows how many tabs will go, the second click closes them. Nothing disappears on a stray click, and pinned tabs and the tab you are looking at are never touched. Four ways to look at the same deck. Group tabs by domain when you want to see which sites eat your window. Group by window when your work is split across two or three windows. Switch to duplicates when you only care about repeated links. Or flatten everything into one list sorted by the last time you opened it, which is the fastest way back to what you were doing five minutes ago. Duplicate tabs are the quiet part of tab cleanup. Opening the same article from a search result, a newsletter and a chat leaves three copies that all look identical. The duplicates view keeps only the piles that really repeat, the counter turns amber, and the same button lets you close duplicate tabs in every pile at once. The freshest copy of each page stays open, the pinned one stays open, and campaign parameters such as utm_source or fbclid are ignored when links are compared, so the same page is recognised even when the address looks different. When tab cleanup should happen without you, switch on automatic collapse. The extension then closes extra copies of the same page on its own, keeping the most recent one. It is off by default, it never closes a pinned tab or the tab in front of you, and it can be switched off in the same place. The toolbar badge always shows the tab counter, so the number of open tabs is visible without opening anything, and Ctrl+Shift+5 (Command+Shift+5 on a Mac) opens the deck from anywhere. Everything stays on your device. The extension asks for two permissions and nothing else: tabs, to read the addresses and titles of the tabs you already have open, and storage, to remember your view and your switch. There are no host permissions, no content scripts, no injected code, no remote scripts, no analytics and no account. No page content is read, no browsing history is uploaded, and nothing is sold or shared, because nothing leaves the browser. Start in three steps. Install the extension, press the toolbar icon to see the deck, and pick the view you like — the choice is remembered. If you want the keyboard, use Ctrl+Shift+5. If you want silence, leave automatic collapse off and close piles yourself. It suits people who keep a lot of tabs open on purpose: researchers comparing sources, developers reading documentation, shoppers comparing offers, students collecting material for one essay. It also suits anyone whose browser has quietly turned into a to-do list. Why this tab organizer. There is no sign-up, no cloud, no dashboard to configure, and no feature that does nothing. The interface is one screen: a counter, one action, four views and the deck. The extension speaks 55 languages, lays itself out right to left for Arabic, Hebrew and Persian, follows the system theme, and is usable from the keyboard. Chrome tab groups are still there if you want manual filing; this is the other half — a quick look at what is already open. Questions people ask. Does it send my tabs anywhere? No, everything is local. Will it close tabs behind my back? Only if you switch automatic collapse on, and never a pinned tab. Does it work with many tabs? The deck is built for hundreds, the list scrolls and the counter keeps the total. Can I turn it off? Yes — remove the extension and the settings go with it. Install Tab Manager once and the tab strip stops being a guessing game. Piles show where your attention actually went, the cross gives you a way out of a site you are done with, and duplicates stop piling up in silence.
