WordPress Checker Update
Overview
Monitor WordPress release branches and get a badge alert as soon as a new version is published.
Maintaining one or several WordPress sites, sometimes on different branches? WordPress Checker Update keeps an eye on the branches you choose and tells you the exact moment a new version ships in any of them. No more reloading the Releases page: the icon badge counts the branches that need an update. HOW IT WORKS 1. Paste the URL of a WordPress.org Releases page into the popup. Every locale works: wordpress.org, fr.wordpress.org, de.wordpress.org, and so on. 2. If the URL contains a branch anchor (for example #branch-68), branch 6.8 is added immediately. Otherwise, pick the branch to monitor from the full list, newest to oldest. You can also pick a branch manually, without any URL. 3. Set your current version on the card (default: the latest of the branch). 4. As soon as a newer version is published in the branch, the card lights up, the red icon badge shows how many branches are affected and a "Mark as updated" button appears. FEATURES - Monitor several branches in parallel (7.0, 6.8, 5.2, ... every branch published since 0.71) - Automatic background checks, adjustable from every hour to once a day - "Check now" button to force an immediate check - Icon badge with the number of branches needing an update - Security status of every branch, straight from the official WordPress.org API - One-click download of the ZIP of the latest version of each branch - Localized packages: a branch added from fr.wordpress.org downloads wordpress-X.Y.Z-fr_FR.zip, from de.wordpress.org the de_DE package, and so on for more than 40 locales. Added from wordpress.org or via the manual picker, you get the international archive. - Synced with your Google account: your branches and settings follow you across all your signed-in Chrome browsers - Clean, careful interface with subtle animations and support for the "reduce motion" preference SECURITY STATUSES Each card shows the state of its branch, as published by WordPress.org: - Current stable branch: the actively maintained branch - Older branch: no longer the current branch, but the latest known fix - Insecure: the branch contains known vulnerabilities, updating is advised HOW IT WORKS UNDER THE HOOD, AND PRIVACY The extension only queries the official api.wordpress.org/core/stable-check/1.0/ API, the only WordPress.org API meant for external use. It is the same source WordPress installations themselves rely on. - No tracking, no ads, no data sent to third parties - A single network destination: api.wordpress.org - No personal data collected: the extension knows nothing about your sites - Your branches and settings are stored via chrome.storage.sync, tied to your Google account LANGUAGES Interface available in English, French, German and Luxembourgish. The extension follows your Chrome language. This project is independent and is not affiliated with the WordPress Foundation or Automattic.
