Overview

Lets Winter, the assistant on your Mac, work in this browser's tabs in the background when you ask it to.

Winter for Chrome connects this browser to Winter, the AI assistant that runs on your Mac. When you ask Winter to do something on the web — look something up, fill in a form, gather details from a few pages, check a page you are building — it can work in this browser's tabs in the background while you carry on using your Mac. Winter for Chrome needs the Winter app for macOS (macOS 26 or later on Apple silicon). On its own it does nothing: it only talks to the Winter installed on the same Mac. What it does • Opens tabs for Winter in the background, grouped under "Winter · <task>", so they never jump in front of you. • Lets Winter read and work in the tabs it is using: the page's text and layout, screenshots, clicks and typing. • Shows Winter a page's network requests (address, method, status and timing) and its console messages, so it can tell when a page has loaded and help you debug one you are building. On request it reads the content of one response; anything that looks like a password, token or key is removed first. • Saves a file you asked Winter to download into the folder Winter works in, and can show a page at a phone or tablet size. • Shows clearly where Winter is working: a glowing border, Winter's cursor and a "Winter is working" label on the page. • Turns its toolbar button into STOP while Winter works: one click stops Winter in every tab. • When a page needs you (a sign-in, a code, a CAPTCHA), Winter asks you first; only if you choose "Show me the tab" does the extension bring that tab to the front. • When Winter needs you to do something in a tab first (press Submit, for example), it can wait for just that: a small pill on the page says what it is waiting for, and the browser shows no debugging bar while it waits. • Closes Winter's own tabs when the task is done, unless you keep them. It never closes your tabs. Only if you switch them on (in its toolbar menu, off by default) • Find pages in your history, read only. • Find pages in your bookmarks, read only. • Save files a page makes itself (an export), through a "Winter" folder in your Downloads folder. What it never does • Never switches your tab or brings a window to the front, except the one tab you choose to see when a page needs you. • Never reads cookies, saved passwords or a site's stored data, and never reads request headers or the data a page sends. • Never runs code in the page's own context: the little code it uses runs in a separate, isolated context. • Never works on the browser's own pages, extension store pages, local files, or in private windows. • Makes no network requests of its own and has no analytics. What it reads goes only to the Winter app on your Mac, over the browser's native-messaging channel. You stay in charge: in Winter's settings you choose whether Winter may control apps and browsers at all, and which ones. Winter is open source: https://github.com/yanlingLabs/winter
