Overview

Export Windchill 13.1 type, attribute, constraint and enumeration definitions to a structured Excel workbook.

Windchill TAM Export — Configuration reports and readable type specifications Document your Windchill type system with structured Excel reports and human-readable specifications. Built for administrators working with Windchill 13.1 Type and Attribute Management (TAM). EXPORT YOUR CONFIGURATION • Types and subtype hierarchy • Attributes, descriptions and inheritance indicators • Attribute constraints, parameters and available condition data • Enumeration definitions, stored values, display labels and selectable status • Default values and attribute visibility • Reusable attributes, layouts and attribute placement • Cascading and relationship rule tables • Measurement systems and quantities of measure • Classification metadata through available REST interfaces THREE DOWNLOAD FORMATS • Detailed Excel report — related worksheets with filters, frozen headings and cross-sheet links for analysis and reporting. • Readable type specification — a Contents sheet and individual type sheets covering attributes, defaults, constraints and allowed values. • JSON export — the collected dataset for further processing or reference. PRECISE TYPE SELECTION Choose all accessible types or select exact types from a searchable hierarchy. Include subtypes when needed. Selecting “Part” does not automatically select similarly named types such as “Part Usage.” Shared definitions, including enumerations and reusable attributes, remain included when filtering types. PREVIEW AND REVIEW Explore every collected data sheet through clickable worksheet buttons. Browse paginated results and review collection coverage and issues before downloading. The collector follows server continuation batches to retrieve attributes beyond the initial visible page. Stop a collection when needed, restore the last local checkpoint for download, or clear saved data. Try the included fictional sample data to explore reports without connecting to Windchill. LOCAL PROCESSING Uses your existing authenticated Windchill session. No server installation is required. Configuration requests go to your selected Windchill application. Reports are generated locally, and checkpoints remain in your browser. The extension has no publisher backend, advertising or analytics and does not extract passwords or cookies. GETTING STARTED 1. Sign in to Windchill and open Type and Attribute Management in view mode. 2. Click the Windchill TAM Export toolbar icon. 3. Choose your types and start collection. 4. Review Coverage and Export Issues. 5. Download your Excel report, readable specification or JSON file. REQUIREMENTS AND COVERAGE Requires Chrome 120 or later and access to Windchill Type and Attribute Manager. Output is in English. Compatibility depends on your deployment’s configuration and customizations. Full classification-manager constraints and layouts are not currently covered. Rich custom conditional rules and local enumeration behavior require validation in your environment. Review coverage before treating an export as a complete configuration baseline. ## First export 1. Sign in normally to Windchill. Open **Site → Utilities → Type and Attribute Management** (or your organization's equivalent TAM route). 2. Leave TAM in view mode. Click the **Windchill TAM Export** toolbar icon. The exporter opens in a separate tab and displays the connected site. 3. Choose **All types** for the accessible hierarchy, or **Selected types**. With Selected types, search for a name, then explicitly check each exact type. Part does not automatically include Part Usage. Search filters visible choices only; previous checked selections remain selected. Enable **Include subtypes** only when wanted. 4. Leave **Include classification metadata through REST** checked if the site's classification domain is supported; otherwise disable it for a TAM-only export. The resulting workbook reflects this scope. 5. Select **Collect metadata**. Keep both tabs open and avoid navigating or editing TAM during collection. Shared libraries remain included even for a single type, so counts can be larger than expected. 6. On completion, inspect **Coverage** and **Export Issues** using the clickable worksheet buttons. Browse Previous/Next to see more than 25 rows. 7. Select **Download Excel** for reporting, **Download type specification** for readable documentation, and **Download JSON** for the full captured dataset. ## Understanding the files | Output | Use | | --- | --- | | Detailed Excel | Reporting and joins across types, attributes, constraints and enum values. Summary plus 24 data sheets, frozen headings, filters and links. | | Type specification | Contents plus a readable sheet per type: descriptions, attributes, defaults, constraints, legal/enum values and visibility. | | JSON | Preserves the captured dataset, including partial results or strings that exceed Excel's limits. | Blank means unavailable/not supplied, not automatically false or optional. Required status is shown only when supported by captured rules. Non-selectable enum values are identified. Source inheritance evidence can be inferred and is labeled accordingly. Review advanced condition logic in TAM before treating a specification as authoritative. ## Recovery and removal **Stop collection** ends the run and saves collected data. A read already in flight may finish on the source tab. **Restore last local checkpoint** loads the last saved dataset for preview/download; it does not resume an interrupted crawl. Start a new collection to refresh. **Clear saved data** removes the local checkpoint and current preview. Previously downloaded files stay on disk. Uninstalling removes extension storage. Handle exports according to your organization's rules for configuration information. ## Offline demo Click **Try sample data** in the collection panel. The status reads SAMPLE and the metadata is fictional. Explore all three downloads and preview sheets. No Windchill requests are made by this action and the real saved checkpoint is preserved. Starting collection replaces the in-memory sample with live results. ## Troubleshooting | Symptom | Action | | --- | --- | | Old `base-uri 'none'` error | Update to 0.6.0, reload the extension and close/reopen old exporter tabs. Clear historical errors in Chrome, then test again. Do not weaken CSP. | | Only 25 rows visible | The preview is paginated. Use Next and check its total. The collector follows server continuation batches and reports incomplete responses as issues. | | TAM not detected | Launch from the authenticated TAM tab in view mode, then Connect. Reopen after switching sites or administration contexts. | | Authentication failure | Sign in again and start a new collection. Previously collected data can be downloaded. | | Partial/failed status | Review Export Issues, Coverage and request URLs; do not assume blank sheets mean no configuration. | | Classification HTTP error | Check domain availability/admin rights; disable classification for a TAM-only export if it is unavailable. | | Excel cell-length error | Download JSON. Excel cannot represent a single value over its cell limit. | | Large run is slow | Begin with selected representative types. Shared libraries are still collected. Keep the session active. | SUPPORT Publisher: Praveen Sampath Email: pravincee@gmail.com Privacy policy: https://praveensampathplm.github.io/windchill-powertools/tam-export-privacy-policy.html Independent tool.
