Will It Be Bright? adds natural light estimates to Zillow and Redfin listings so you can get a better idea of the light before you book a tour. The extension is free to install. A one-time payment of $4.99 unlocks the grades and full analysis, with no subscription. You’re buying from Will It Be Bright?, not Google and you'll enter your key to unlock it. Old school. I built this while looking for a home after living in an apartment that got no direct sunlight. I loved that apartment, but when I started looking again, I wanted more information than the listing photos could give me. This extension puts the sunlight estimate alongside the homes you’re already browsing. What’s included: - Natural light badges on supported Zillow and Redfin listings - Brightness grades ranging from Excellent to Minimal - Seasonal estimates of direct sunlight hours - Light predictions for common rooms, including bedrooms and home offices - Building orientation details, with a confidence note when map data is incomplete - An option to correct the direction if the estimate looks wrong How it works: Browse Zillow or Redfin as usual. The extension uses the property’s address to look up its location and building data through OpenStreetMap, then estimates sunlight based on its direction, latitude, and the time of year. Open the extension to see the seasonal breakdown and room predictions. Where building footprints are missing, it may use nearby roads to estimate the direction. If there isn’t enough information, the result is marked as a rough estimate. Before you rely on a result... The extension DOES measure tree cover estimates, but it does not measure neighboring buildings or window sizes. Room predictions use typical floor plans rather than the home’s actual layout, and apartments in the same building can get very different light depending on their position. Use the estimate to help decide what to check during a tour. You’ll still want to see the rooms in person, of course. Privacy You don’t need an account. Property addresses are sent to OpenStreetMap services for the analysis. Your purchase key is stored in Chrome and checked with the Will It Be Bright? license service.
