Overview

Emergency alerts on every classroom screen, and one button for a teacher who needs help. Installed and set up by your school.

whoot. Alerts is installed and configured by a school's IT team and is not for personal use. When the school declares an emergency alert (a lockdown, an evacuation, a drill), the alert takes every screen of the Chromebook: the scenario's name, what to do now, where it applies and when it was declared, with an alarm, a chime or in silence as the school chose. A member of staff acknowledges it, can give a status (Safe, Need help, Evacuating, Can't respond), sees updates as they come, and sees the all clear. Get help is the one action the app offers. Hold to send in its window, or press Ctrl+Shift+H three times, and the school's responders are alerted with the room the Chromebook is in. The window shows when it was sent, who has seen it and who is on the way, and can ask what is happening (first aid, behaviour, an extra adult, an unknown adult) so responders know what to bring. Notices are routine messages from the school office (a fire alarm test, a moved briefing), shown as a small card with Got it. A notice is never an alert. Discreet display keeps an alert's words off a screen a class can see: on a mirrored or external display a scenario the school marks as discreet shows a code phrase instead, and the full alert only on the teacher's own screen. What the app records: when an alert was delivered, displayed, acknowledged and answered, naming the account signed in when someone acted; a Get help press with its time and the need chosen. It takes no screenshots, reads no documents or browsing, records no sound and tracks no position. The app needs a Chromebook managed by the school's Google Admin, force-installed to the staff organisational units with "Allow access to keys", and signed in with a staff account of the school's domain. Anywhere else it shows "Not set up" and does nothing.
