Whooptido helps you learn a language while you watch. It adds a second caption line and word lookups to YouTube, Netflix and Prime Video. Dual captions Show captions in the language you are learning and in your own language together, on supported YouTube, Netflix and Prime Video pages. Change the font, size, colors, background and position. Word lookups Hover over a word in the learning-language caption for a short meaning. Click it for more detail. Save words to your Whooptido account to study them later. Word-for-word captions (optional add-on) When a video has no usable captions in your learning language, Whooptido can create them from the video's speech. This needs a separate program, the Whooptido companion app, which is a download for your own computer (macOS, Windows or Linux) that you install only if you choose to. It is not included with the extension because the download is large, and it needs a Premium account. The video's audio is processed only on your computer and is never uploaded. While it makes captions, the companion keeps short temporary audio files on your computer and deletes them afterwards. - Streaming captions appear as you watch. - Enhanced captions are higher quality and are prepared ahead of playback on Netflix and Prime Video. When a Premium account prepares Enhanced captions, the caption text and timings (never audio) are stored encrypted in Whooptido's Firebase project and shared with other Premium users who watch the same video. There is no separate setting to turn sharing off; if you do not want to share, do not use Enhanced captions. - If word-for-word captions fail and you are signed in, the extension sends a short technical report (platform, video ID, failed step, versions, operating system type; no audio, no caption text). Reports are deleted after 90 days. Languages English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Arabic and Mandarin Chinese are supported for the app. Dictionary and word-for-word caption coverage varies by language and by platform. For a language without a Whooptido dictionary, Premium members can turn on Chrome's built-in translation, which translates words and caption sentences on your computer. Accounts Some features need a free Whooptido account, and word-for-word captions need a Premium account.
