Overview
Find original window stickers and MSRP on nearly all dealer and listing aggregation sites.
See what a used vehicle cost when it was new, right on the listing. WhenNew adds original MSRP and price context to supported used-vehicle listings. A small icon appears beside the vehicle name, giving you access to historical pricing, configuration details, and - when available - the vehicle’s original window sticker. No account required. Browse normally and open WhenNew when you want a closer look. ORIGINAL WINDOW STICKERS BY VIN An original window sticker can show the factory equipment, options, packages, and pricing for one specific vehicle. When a listing includes a VIN, WhenNew uses NHTSA’s public decoder to help identify the vehicle. With sticker lookup enabled, it checks for an original document from supported manufacturer sources. If a sticker is available, the icon opens it on the WhenNew website. If one cannot be retrieved, WhenNew can still show historical MSRP from its built-in database. Sticker availability varies by manufacturer, model year, and VIN. A catalog MSRP match is not the same as a verified sticker for that individual vehicle. SEE THE PRICE BEHIND THE LISTING An asking price tells you what a seller wants today. WhenNew helps show where that number started. Depending on the listing and available data, you can see: • Original or base MSRP • The dollar and percentage difference from the asking price • The percentage of original MSRP retained • Vehicle age and annualized price change • Optional inflation-adjusted U.S. pricing • A specific configuration price or an MSRP range • Pricing sources and matching details If a listing says “Call for price” or hides the asking price, WhenNew can still show historical MSRP when enough vehicle information is available. Original MSRP provides context. It is not a current market valuation or a guarantee that an asking price is fair. MATCH THE RIGHT CONFIGURATION Different trims and configurations can have very different original prices. WhenNew examines available details such as year, make, model, trim, drivetrain, body style, engine, transmission, battery, cab, and bed length. VIN identification can help resolve missing or conflicting vehicle information. Local pricing can appear while VIN verification runs. Results distinguish specific matches, incomplete matches, possible price ranges, and unavailable pricing. When the evidence supports only a range, WhenNew shows a range instead of inventing an exact price. You can select another configuration or use “Wrong vehicle?” to correct the year, make, and model. LOOK UP VEHICLES WITHOUT A LISTING Open the extension and choose “Look up a vehicle” to search by year, make, and model. Research a vehicle you own, compare model years, or check original prices before visiting a dealership. The companion website, whennew.site, also offers historical pricing searches and original window sticker lookup by VIN. HISTORICAL PRICING ACROSS THREE MARKETS WhenNew includes more than 30,000 U.S. MSRP records, with primary coverage spanning model years 1995–2026. The database covers gasoline, diesel, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric vehicles. Pricing may be available as individual configurations or a verified model-year range. Selected Canadian vehicles are also supported, with more limited Mexican coverage. Prices retain their market and currency; missing Canadian or Mexican prices are not replaced with U.S. prices. Coverage varies by make, model, year, and configuration. WhenNew identifies missing information rather than guessing. COMPARE BUYING POWER ACROSS YEARS WhenNew includes optional inflation comparisons for U.S.-dollar prices using bundled U.S. CPI-U data. You can also highlight a U.S.-dollar amount on a webpage and choose the WhenNew option from the right-click menu to compare its buying power with another year. This feature runs only when you choose it. It does not scan ordinary webpages for unrelated prices. SMALL ICON. USEFUL DETAILS. WhenNew places a small icon beside supported vehicle titles. Open it for pricing details or an available original sticker. Choose the experience that works for you: • Show results on inventory and search pages • Adjust the amount of pricing detail displayed • Choose a price-summary format • Turn inflation comparisons on or off • Enable or disable original sticker lookup • Pause WhenNew on individual websites • Select your pricing market • Optionally keep a local list of missing prices The missing-price list is off by default. When enabled, it stores the vehicle’s year, make, model, and encounter count on your device - not VINs, listing URLs, asking prices, or timestamps. LOCAL-FIRST, WITH CLEAR VIN REQUESTS Historical MSRP data and inflation data are bundled with the extension. MSRP matching, price comparisons, and inflation calculations run locally. WhenNew does not require an account and does not include advertising or analytics trackers in the extension. Some features use external services: • When a listing contains a VIN, the extension sends it to NHTSA’s public decoder to help identify the vehicle. • When sticker lookup is enabled for a supported make, the extension sends the VIN and selected market to WhenNew to look for an original manufacturer document. • Listing URLs and asking prices are not included in those lookup requests. Lookup results are cached briefly in memory. WhenNew and its service providers may retain standard request logs. Opening the companion website is subject to that website’s separate privacy and cookie settings. Extension preferences, paused websites, and optional missing-price records are stored locally. Manual vehicle corrections apply to the current page. Webpage access allows WhenNew to recognize vehicle listings and place information beside them. RESEARCH WITH MORE CONTEXT Use WhenNew to compare trims, explore historical prices, understand original equipment, and put a used vehicle’s asking price in perspective. Historical prices and original stickers do not establish current value, confirm present condition, or replace a vehicle history check or inspection. Know what it cost then. Better understand what it costs now.
