Inside WhatsApp: open a message’s ⋯ menu and tap Translate—see the result inline under the bubble or in a popover, with copy and dismiss. Pick a default “translate into” language in Settings. Reply in the right language Set default response language to Auto (match the conversation) or choose a fixed language (English, Spanish, Hebrew, Japanese, and more—the same options as in the app). Requirements Google Chrome (or another Chromium browser that supports Manifest V3 extensions). An active Gemini API key from Google AI Studio: https://aistudio.google.com/app/apikey WhatsApp Web open at web.whatsapp.com with a chat selected when you refresh context or insert a reply. Quick start Install the extension and open the popup. Paste and save your API key (stored only on this device in extension storage). Open WhatsApp Web, pick a conversation, then use Refresh conversation if needed. Generate a reply or use Translate from the popup or the message ⋯ menu. What the extension can access Host access is limited to WhatsApp Web (to read the open chat and insert text) and Google’s Generative Language API (to call Gemini). Conversation text is not sent to servers run by the extension author—only to Google when you trigger AI features. Limitations WhatsApp’s web UI changes over time; if something stops working, try refreshing the page or updating the extension. Replies and translation depend on your API quota, billing, and whether the Generative Language API is enabled for your Google Cloud / AI Studio project.
