What Does That Mean? – Double-Click Dictionary
Overview
Free dictionary for Chrome: double-click any word on any website to see its meaning, hear it, see examples. No account, no tracking.
A free dictionary for Chrome. Ever hit a word you don't know? Double-click it. Its meaning shows up right next to it, on any website. No new tab, no searching, no copying and pasting. HOW IT WORKS • Double-click any word on a page. A small card appears right under it. • Read the meaning, see how it's said, and press the speaker to hear it out loud. • Click anywhere else, or press Escape, to close it. MORE WAYS TO LOOK UP • Got a phrase? Select it, right-click, and choose "What does … mean?" • Want to type a word? Click the yellow ? in your toolbar and type it in. If you already selected a word on the page, it's looked up for you. MADE TO STAY OUT OF YOUR WAY • Works on news sites, email, school work, recipes, anything. • Double-clicks inside text boxes are ignored, so editing works as normal. • Turn it off for one website, or everywhere, from the toolbar. • Shows several meanings when a word has more than one: noun, verb, adjective and more. PRIVATE AND FREE • No account, no sign-up, no ads, no paid plan. • Only the word you look up is sent to a free public dictionary (dictionaryapi.dev) to get its meaning. Nothing else leaves your browser, and no history is saved. • Words are spoken by Chrome's built-in voices, offline. Meanings come from Wiktionary (CC BY-SA 4.0) via the Free Dictionary API. Not affiliated with Google, Wikimedia or the Free Dictionary API.
