Overview
Trace webpages into editable Figma layers. Save locally, copy to Figma, or send an end-to-end encrypted trace.
Webtrace captures the visual structure of the webpage you are viewing and turns it into a portable .wtrace file that can be rebuilt as native, editable layers using the Webtrace plugin for Figma. Unlike a screenshot, Webtrace preserves useful design structure such as frames, real text, image fills, vectors, gradients, shadows and layout information. HOW IT WORKS 1. Open the webpage you want to capture. 2. Open Webtrace and choose the required viewports and themes. 3. Trace the full page or select a specific element. 4. Save the .wtrace file, copy it for local transfer, or send it securely to your paired Webtrace plugin. 5. Open the Webtrace plugin in Figma and choose the frames you want to import. CAPTURE FEATURES • Full-page and selected-element capture • Multiple viewport widths in one trace • Light, dark and automatic colour-scheme capture • Automatic scrolling to load lazy-loaded page content • Native, editable Figma output rather than a flattened screenshot • Open and documented .wtrace file format THREE WAYS TO TRANSFER A TRACE • Save trace file: downloads a local .wtrace file to your device • Copy for Figma: places the capture on your clipboard for local transfer • Send to Figma: sends the capture to your paired plugin using end-to-end encryption PRIVACY AND DATA HANDLING Webtrace operates only when you explicitly start a trace. It reads the active page’s URL, title, DOM structure, text, images and computed styles to create the requested capture. Capture processing happens on your device. Saving a trace or using Copy for Figma does not upload the captured page to Webtrace. If you choose Send to Figma, that individual capture is encrypted on your device before being relayed to your paired plugin. Webtrace does not receive the encryption key and cannot read the capture. Relayed captures are deleted within 24 hours. A free email-based Webtrace account is required to capture pages and import traces. Webtrace account services receive only the information needed for authentication, plan management and usage limits, including your email address, session information, installation record, plan and usage count. Webtrace does not use browsing data for analytics, advertising or profiling. PERMISSIONS • activeTab and scripting: read and capture the current page only after you initiate a trace • debugger: temporarily emulate selected viewport sizes and light or dark colour schemes during a trace • storage: remember local preferences, pairing information and sign-in status • clipboardWrite: support the user-initiated Copy for Figma action The debugger session is attached only while an initiated capture is running and is detached when the capture completes, fails or is cancelled.
