webp is vendor-lockin, and reminds me of how you used to have to struggle to find a GIF viewer too. Why don't operating systems and image viewers natively support webp? Does nobody remember how in July 1999, Unisys quietly posted a new policy on its Web site, requiring any Web developers using GIF who did not have a GIF license to get one for $5,000? JPeG and PNG for me please.

The more WebP, the better. Now if only this could act as a clue-by-four to smack website owners to hurry up and add more support for WebP. Then I'd find some way to give this 10 stars. :P

I personally need the opposite of this because rehosting WebP images on the web is a problem because of lack of support of WebP on third party services.
