Webcam Blocker A tiny Chrome extension that stops **any website** from probing or opening your webcam. Useful when a browser's device probe (e.g. YouTube's voice-search button, some Google pages) trips your antivirus's "webcam access" alert every time you open a page. It works by replacing the camera-related browser APIs on each page **before the page's own scripts run**, returning a device list with no camera and refusing any request to open the camera. Your microphone, playback, and everything else keep working — only the camera is shielded. Features - Blocks camera access on all sites by default. - **Popup menu**: one click to **Allow** or **Block** the camera for the site you're on. Allowed sites are remembered (and synced across your Chromes). - Allowed sites are never injected at all, so real video calls (Google Meet, Zoom, Teams) work normally once you allow them. - No data collected, no network requests. How it works - `background.js` (service worker) dynamically registers the blocker content script on `*://*/*`, with your allowed sites as `excludeMatches`. - `block-webcam.js` runs in the page's MAIN world at `document_start` and swaps out `enumerateDevices` / `getUserMedia` so the camera is never touched. - `popup.html` / `popup.js` is the toolbar menu that edits the allow-list.
