Web Night — Dark Mode with Schedule
Overview
Enable Night Mode on most websites for comfortable browsing. Auto-schedule dark mode to turn on and off when you want.
🌙 Web Night — Dark Mode with Schedule Tired of bright white pages hurting your eyes at night? Web Night turns any website into a comfortable dark experience — automatically, on your schedule. Whether you're reading articles at midnight, coding late into the evening, or just someone who prefers a darker web all day long, Web Night has you covered. ✨ What Web Night does 🌑 Universal Dark Mode Applies smooth night mode to virtually every website you visit — news, social media, documentation, dashboards, email clients, and more. No site-by-site setup required. Just install, enable, and browse comfortably. 🕐 Auto Schedule Set a custom time range for dark mode to switch on and off automatically. Go dark at 8 PM, return to light at 7 AM — Web Night handles it silently in the background without you having to think about it. The schedule runs even when the popup is closed, powered by a lightweight alarm system. 🎨 True Color Preservation Most dark mode extensions invert everything — and that means colorful logos, brand icons, and app graphics end up looking washed out or tinted. Web Night uses smart pixel-level detection to tell the difference between a black-and-white UI icon and a full-color image. Colorful icons and logos are restored to their original appearance, while monochrome UI elements are properly adapted to the dark background. 🚫 Whitelist Sites Some websites already have their own dark mode, or simply look better in the light. Add any domain to your personal whitelist and Web Night will skip it entirely — no dark mode, no interference, just the site as it was designed. 🖼️ Photo & Video Safe Real photos, banners, and embedded videos are automatically detected and counter-processed so they display in their natural colors. YouTube, Vimeo, and other media players are recognized and left untouched, so your viewing experience stays exactly as it should be. ⌨️ Keyboard Shortcut Toggle dark mode instantly with Alt + Shift + D — no need to open the popup or reach for the mouse. Ideal for power users who switch between contexts frequently. 🔴🟢 Live Status Badge The toolbar icon always shows a clear ON or OFF badge so you know the current state at a glance — no need to open the popup to check. The badge turns blue when dark mode is enabled but currently outside its scheduled active window, so you always understand exactly what's happening. ⚡ Lightweight & Fast, Zero Flicker Web Night injects its styles at document_start — before the page has a chance to flash white. There's no polling loop, no unnecessary tab reloads, and no CPU spikes on page load. It's designed to stay out of your way while doing its job reliably in the background. 🌐 Works Across All Frames Dark mode applies to embedded iframes and sub-frames too, so complex pages with nested content — like Google Workspace, webmail clients, or embedded widgets — are handled correctly without double-inversion artifacts. 🔒 Privacy First Web Night does not collect, transmit, log, or share any personal data whatsoever. Your whitelist and schedule settings are stored locally in your own browser using Chrome's built-in sync storage. No account required. No analytics. No ads. Ever. ❓ Frequently Asked Questions Does it work on all websites? Web Night works on the vast majority of websites. A small number of sites that use advanced canvas rendering or heavily sandboxed iframes may not be fully covered. Will it slow down my browser? No. The extension is designed to be extremely lightweight. Styles are injected once at page load, and background processing is minimal — only a once-per-minute schedule check runs in the background. Can I use it on specific sites only? Currently Web Night applies globally and lets you whitelist sites you want to exclude. Per-site activation is on the roadmap. What happens when I'm outside my scheduled window? Dark mode is temporarily suspended — pages load normally in light mode — and automatically re-enables when the scheduled time arrives again. The toolbar badge turns blue to indicate this state.
