WBlur
Overview
WBlur ā Blur & hide messages on WhatsApp Web, WA Web, and WhatsApp Business Web.
š Keep your conversations private on WhatsApp Web, even with people around you. WBlur is a privacy screen for WhatsApp Web: it hides your messages, chat previews, photos and names behind a soft blur. Point at anything with your mouse to read it, move away and it's hidden again. People next to you, behind you, or watching your shared screen only see blurred shapes, while you keep chatting as usual. It also works with WhatsApp Business Web, in Chrome and Chromium-based browsers such as Brave and Edge. š WHAT YOU CAN HIDE š¬ Messages: every message in the open chat, including links and stickers. š All but the latest: keep your last 3 messages readable and hide the rest. šØ Chat list previews: the last-message line under each conversation. š¼ļø Photos and videos: images, videos, GIFs, stickers, link previews, locations and media in replies, separately from the text. šļø Media gallery: thumbnails in the contact info panel, the media gallery and the full-screen viewer. āØļø Your typing: the message box, so nobody can read what you're writing. š¤ Profile pictures: in the chat list, in group chats and in contact info. š·ļø Names and numbers: group, community and business names, phone numbers and shared contact cards. āļø Every option has its own switch, so you decide exactly what stays visible. ⨠HOW IT WORKS š±ļø Hover to reveal: only the item under your mouse is shown, for as long as you point at it. ā” One-key toggle: turn WBlur on or off with Alt+X (you can change the shortcut at chrome://extensions/shortcuts), or with the switch in the toolbar menu. š Reveal all on hover: optionally show everything while your mouse is over the WhatsApp page, and hide it all again as soon as it leaves. š Instant: changes apply right away, without reloading the page. š USEFUL WHEN YOU'RE š¢ Working in an open office, a co-working space or a cafĆ© š Studying in a library or a classroom š Using your laptop on a train, a plane or a bus š„ļø Sharing your screen in a meeting, a presentation or a recording šØāš©āš§ Using a shared or family computer š”ļø PRIVACY BY DESIGN WBlur runs entirely inside your browser. It never collects, stores or sends your messages, and it has no analytics, no account and no tracking. It only runs on web.whatsapp.com and asks for two permissions: storage, to remember your settings, and scripting, to apply your changes to WhatsApp tabs that are already open. š IN YOUR LANGUAGE WBlur is available in 55 languages, including Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, Ukrainian and Vietnamese. It follows your browser's language automatically. š GET STARTED 1ļøā£ Add WBlur to Chrome and pin it to your toolbar. 2ļøā£ Open WhatsApp Web (web.whatsapp.com), or reload it if it's already open. 3ļøā£ Click the WBlur icon and choose what to hide. ā QUESTIONS Does it work with WhatsApp Business? Yes. Business accounts use the same web app, and every option works there too. Can people see my WhatsApp Web chats when I share my screen? Hidden items stay blurred in screen shares and recordings, unless you point at them. Does it change my WhatsApp account or messages? No. WBlur only changes how the page looks on your computer. Your account, messages and contacts are untouched, and turning WBlur off shows everything as normal. ā¹ļø WhatsApp is a trademark of WhatsApp LLC. WBlur is an independent extension and is not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by WhatsApp LLC or Meta Platforms, Inc.
