WA Translator for WhatsApp™ Web - Private AI
Overview
Translate WhatsApp messages both ways with Chrome's built-in on-device AI. 100% private, free and unlimited.
Your customer writes in Spanish. You reply in English. Somewhere in between, the sale dies. If you use WhatsApp Web across languages - selling cross-border, supporting international customers, freelancing for overseas clients, or just talking to family abroad - you know the routine. Copy the message. Switch to a translator tab. Paste. Copy the result. Switch back. Type your reply. Translate it again. Paste. Send. Ten times per conversation. Every conversation. Every day. It does not have to work that way. WHY WHATSAPP TRANSLATION IS BROKEN Most translation tools for WhatsApp solve one problem and create three more: - Cloud-based translators upload your private conversations to remote servers. Your customer negotiations, your family chats, your business numbers - all of it leaves your computer. - Many tools require you to create an account, paste in an API key, or pay a monthly subscription just to translate a few messages. - Free translation endpoints get rate-limited or shut down without warning, and the extension that depended on them stops working overnight. - Some extensions inject code into WhatsApp's internal systems, which breaks every time WhatsApp updates and puts your account at risk. Most people give up and go back to tab-switching. This extension takes a different approach: it uses the translation AI that is already built into your Chrome browser. WHAT THIS EXTENSION DOES WA Translator adds two-way translation directly inside WhatsApp Web, powered by Chrome's built-in on-device AI (the Translator and Language Detector APIs available in Chrome 138 and newer). All translation happens locally on your machine. No account. No API key. No server. No message ever leaves your computer. Here is what you get: Incoming translation - hover over any received message and a small translate button appears. One click shows the translation right inside the message bubble, tagged with the target language. Auto-translate - flip one switch and every new incoming message is translated automatically as it arrives. Read foreign-language chats like they were written in your language. Outgoing translation - type your reply in your own language and press Enter. The message is translated to your chosen language before it sends. Your customer receives it in their language, instantly. Send button support - whether you press Enter or click the send arrow, outgoing translation works the same way. Quick toggle - a small pill above the message box shows the current outgoing language. Click it to turn outgoing translation on or off without opening any menus. Automatic language detection - you never have to tell the extension what language the other person is writing in. It detects the source language per message. 30+ languages - including Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Arabic, Hindi, Indonesian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Turkish, Vietnamese and more, depending on Chrome's available language packs. HOW IT WORKS 1. Install the extension and open web.whatsapp.com 2. Click the extension icon and pick your languages: one for reading, one for sending 3. Download the language pack once - a progress bar shows the status 4. Hover any received message and click translate, or turn on auto-translate 5. Type in your language, press Enter, and the message sends translated That is the whole setup. No registration, no configuration files, no tutorials needed. WHY ON-DEVICE AI MATTERS Every cloud translator works the same way: your message is sent to a server, translated there, and sent back. For personal chats, that is a privacy problem. For business conversations, it can be a compliance problem. Chrome now ships compact translation models that run entirely on your computer - the same technology behind Chrome's built-in page translation. This extension uses those models directly. That changes the economics and the privacy story at the same time: - Private: your chats stay on your machine, full stop - Free: there are no server costs, so there is nothing to charge you for - Unlimited: translate ten messages or ten thousand, there is no quota - Offline-capable: once a language pack is downloaded, translation works without internet access to any third-party service LANGUAGE PACKS The first time you use a new language pair, Chrome downloads a small language pack in the background. This is a one-time download per language, managed by Chrome itself. The extension shows a progress bar in the popup, and other packs download automatically the first time you need them. After that, translation is instant. REAL SCENARIOS WHERE THIS HELPS Cross-border seller: Your supplier writes in Chinese, your customers write in Spanish and Portuguese. You read every message in English and reply in English. Everyone else reads it in their own language. Three markets, one keyboard. Customer support: Your store gets WhatsApp inquiries from a dozen countries. Instead of routing messages by language or pasting into translator tabs, every agent reads and replies in one language. Freelancer with overseas clients: A client briefs you in French. You read it in English, ask clarifying questions in English, and the client never notices the difference. Family abroad: Your in-laws write in a language you are still learning. Auto-translate lets you follow the family group chat in real time, and you can check the original text side by side as you learn. Travel and relocation: Landlords, drivers, local services - WhatsApp is how the world does business. Message anyone in their language without leaving the chat. WHAT THIS EXTENSION DOES NOT DO - It does not read, collect, store, or transmit your conversations anywhere. Translation happens inside your browser. - It does not extract contacts, export chats, or scrape any data. - It does not send messages by itself, bulk-message, or automate your account. - It does not hook into WhatsApp's internal code. It only reads the messages already visible on your screen, the same way a screen reader does. The only permissions it uses: - storage - saves your language choices and on/off toggles - access to web.whatsapp.com - required to show translate buttons and translations on the page That is the complete list. No analytics, no tracking, no external requests. FREE AND UNLIMITED The translator is free with no message limits. Because translation runs on your own hardware through Chrome's built-in AI, there are no per-message server costs behind it. REQUIREMENTS Chrome 138 or newer on desktop (Windows, Mac, Linux). Language pair availability depends on Chrome's on-device translation packs; all major world languages are covered. WHO THIS IS FOR - Ecommerce sellers and dropshippers talking to suppliers and buyers across languages - Customer support teams handling international WhatsApp inquiries - Freelancers and agencies with overseas clients - Expats, immigrants, and international families - Anyone tired of copy-pasting chats into translator tabs GETTING STARTED Install, open WhatsApp Web, hover any message, and click translate. The first language pack downloads in seconds; every translation after that is instant. No account needed. No sign-up. No credit card. Just open WhatsApp and read. --- WhatsApp is a trademark of Meta Platforms, Inc.
