How it works 1. Install the extension and open web.whatsapp.com. 2. WA Backup detects your chats and starts an incremental backup (you can pause, exclude chats, or limit history depth). 3. New messages are archived live while the tab is open. Periodic rescans catch anything missed. 4. Everything is encrypted on your computer with a recovery key that only you hold before anything is uploaded to your private archive. Privacy first • Read-only: the extension never sends messages, never marks anything as read, never modifies WhatsApp. • End-to-end style encryption: chats are encrypted locally (AES-256-GCM). Our servers store only ciphertext and cannot read your conversations. • Local-only mode: without an account, everything stays on your device and can still be exported. • Minimal permissions, no analytics on your chat content.
