Overview

Boost tab audio, monitor peaks, and turn the boost down automatically when it reaches your threshold.

Volume Booster lets you adjust and boost audio or video volume in the current Chrome tab using a simple popup slider. Features: - Adjust volume from 0% up to the configured maximum - Default maximum boost is 600% - Change the maximum boost limit from the options page - Monitor every processed audio sample with a real-time sample-peak (dBFS) meter - Show a red extension icon when the configured peak threshold is reached - Optional automatic reduction: when a peak reaches the threshold, work out the boost level that would have kept that peak within it, and turn the boost down to it. It only ever lowers the boost, never raises it back - Optional speech clarity processing (off by default): a combination of AGC, a multiband compressor, a de-esser, and a true-peak limiter that automatically levels out dialogue and reduces harsh peaks, making videos with large volume swings easier to listen to - Tab audio capture mode: an alternative path for sites the normal method cannot boost. Opening the extension on such a page switches to it, and it stays on while you stay on that site (auto-start and scope are configurable in the options) - Save per-site boost, peak threshold, detection, automatic reduction, and whether tab audio capture is used - Optionally reuse the last manually or automatically adjusted boost for each site - Dark, compact popup UI - Syncs preferences and user-created site profiles through Chrome Sync when enabled - No account required - No tracking, analytics, ads, or remote code This extension is useful when a video or audio player is too quiet even at normal system volume, or when dialogue is hard to hear against loud background music or sound effects. Note: Volume cannot be adjusted on Chrome's internal pages. On sites that serve their media from a different domain, the normal method may not be able to boost it; in that case the popup tells you so and offers the tab audio capture mode. What's new in 1.3.0: - Fixed an issue where audio would stop playing on some sites while the extension was enabled. Media that cannot be processed by the normal method is now detected beforehand and left to play untouched instead of being silenced. - Added a tab audio capture mode for boosting those sites anyway. Opening the extension on such a page switches to it, and it stays on for the rest of your visit to that site, including across reloads. Whether it switches automatically, and how long it stays on, can be changed in the options. Captured audio is never recorded, stored, or transmitted; it is processed and played straight back.
