Voice to Text for Google Chrome™
Overview
Convert speech to text and insert it into the focused input field.
Voice to Text for Google Chrome™ – Dictate Anywhere, Type Nothing Voice to Text for Google Chrome™ turns your voice into written text in any text field on any website. Whether you are writing an email in Gmail, drafting a document in Google Docs, replying on Slack or WhatsApp Web, or filling out a long form, simply click the microphone, start speaking, and watch your words appear exactly where your cursor is. No copy-and-paste, no switching between apps, and no learning curve. WHY VOICE TO TEXT? Most people speak three to four times faster than they type, and speaking is far more comfortable for long messages, notes, or brainstorming. Voice to Text brings fast, accurate speech recognition directly into your browser so you can capture ideas the moment they come to you. It is also a great accessibility tool for anyone who finds typing tiring or painful, including users with repetitive strain injuries or limited mobility. HOW IT WORKS 1. Click on any text box, input field, or rich-text editor on a web page. 2. Press the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+Shift+1 on Windows and Linux, Command+Shift+1 on Mac) or click the floating microphone button. 3. Start talking. Your speech is transcribed and inserted at the cursor position in real time. 4. Press the shortcut again, click the microphone, or hit Esc to stop dictation. The extension recognizes standard input fields, text areas, and rich-text editors, so it works with modern web apps as well as classic HTML forms. Inserted text triggers the page's own input events, so autosave, spell check, and character counters keep working normally. KEY FEATURES • Works on every website • 50+ recognition languages and dialects – Choose from English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Russian, Polish, Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, Romanian, Bulgarian, Greek, Turkish, Ukrainian, Serbian, Croatian, Slovenian, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Latvian, Lithuanian, Estonian, Catalan, Galician, Basque, Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Hindi, Urdu, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Malay, Filipino, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese, and more. Switch languages from the popup at any time, even in the middle of a session. • Continuous dictation – Speak for as long as you like. The recognizer keeps listening and inserts each finished phrase as you go, so you can dictate whole paragraphs without interruption. • Global keyboard shortcut – Toggle dictation from the keyboard without touching the mouse. The shortcut is fully customizable through Chrome's extension shortcut settings, and the popup shows you the currently assigned key combination. • Cursor-aware insertion – Text is placed exactly where your cursor is, and it respects any selected text, so you can dictate into the middle of an existing sentence or replace a highlighted passage. • Clear visual feedback – A small microphone icon appears on the page and turns red while recording, so you always know when the extension is listening. Helpful on-page notifications explain what to do if microphone access has not been granted yet. • Light and dark themes – The settings popup adapts to your preferred look with a single click. • Available in 40+ interface languages – The extension's own user interface is localized for users around the world. PRIVACY FIRST Voice to Text uses the speech recognition engine built into Google Chrome. Audio is processed by the browser's recognition service and is never sent to us. The extension does not collect, store, or transmit your dictated text, browsing history, or personal data. Your language preference is saved locally on your device only. Microphone access is requested only when you start dictation and can be revoked at any time from Chrome's site settings. GETTING STARTED After installation, click the extension icon to open the settings popup. Pick your dictation language, check your keyboard shortcut, and you are ready to go. When you first start dictating on a site, Chrome will ask for permission to use your microphone; click Allow and the microphone stays enabled for that site. If you ever see the microphone blocked, click the padlock icon in the address bar, allow the microphone in Site settings, and reload the page. A step-by-step tutorial is available from the help button inside the popup. REQUIREMENTS • Google Chrome or another Chromium-based browser with Web Speech API support • A working microphone • An internet connection for the browser's speech recognition service Stop typing and start talking. Install Voice to Text for Google Chrome™ today and enjoy faster, easier, hands-free writing on every website you visit.
