Overview

Click a word in Netflix, YouTube or Disney+ subtitles; AI explains it in that sentence. Flashcards built in, no all-sites access.

🎬 Learn English or German from the shows you already watch. Vocabden is a Chrome extension that turns Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, HBO Max (Max) and Prime Video subtitles into vocabulary you keep. Click a word in a subtitle and AI explains what it means in that exact sentence — not a flat dictionary entry with five meanings and no hint which one the character just used. Save it and the word comes back as a flashcard, spaced out over time, inside the extension itself. And out of the box, the only pages it reads are those streaming sites: no "read and change all your data on all websites" at install. One thing up front: Vocabden does not add a second subtitle track. It is built around the opposite move — going into the single word that stopped you, and making sure you still know it next week. ▶ HOW IT WORKS 1. Sign in with Google. One click, and it is required: the AI explanations run on Vocabden's servers, not in your browser. 2. Click a word while you watch. Select it and tap the button that appears, Alt/Option-click it, or press Alt+V. Prefer double-click? Switch it on in Settings. 3. Read it, save it, review it. The toolbar badge counts how many words are ready, and the review session opens from the same icon. ✨ WHAT YOU GET • The meaning that was actually said. "Charge" in a courtroom and "charge" on a phone are not the same word, and the sentence decides which one you get. • Idioms explained whole. "A blessing in disguise" is recognized as a fixed expression and explained by what it really means, not word by word. • Example sentences, plus the word itself read aloud so you know how it sounds. • The whole line, when one word is not the problem. Ask for it and the full subtitle line gets translated. • Spaced repetition without leaving your browser. Saved words return as review cards at widening intervals, and the toolbar badge tells you how many are due. • YouTube transcripts too. The transcript panel works the way subtitles do, with clean sentence context around every word, which helps on talks, interviews and lessons. • An interface in 15 languages, so the explanation reaches you in a language you already think in. • Optional highlighting of words you have already saved, on the sites where you have allowed Vocabden to run. Off until you switch it on. • Your words sync to your Vocabden account and are waiting in the web and mobile apps, where stories, games and more review modes live. 🔒 PERMISSIONS — WE ASK FOR LESS At install, Vocabden asks to read subtitles on the five streaming services it supports — Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, HBO Max and Prime Video — and to reach its own server at api.denapp.xyz. That is the list. It does not read the content of any other website. Want it on news sites, blogs and articles as well? That is a separate, optional permission you grant yourself, from the welcome screen or later in Settings, and the same switch takes it back. When you analyze a word, that word and the sentence it appeared in go to Vocabden's servers so the AI can read them. Your browsing history does not. 💡 FREE AND PRO Vocabden is free to use, with a daily allowance of AI analyses. Pro lifts that limit and is bought inside the Vocabden mobile app, not here. The extension keeps your most recent saved words on hand for quick review; the full collection lives in your account. 🎯 WHO IT'S FOR People who would rather learn from an episode than from a textbook: students, exam candidates, and anyone who has looked up the same word five times and still does not own it. If you have used a pop-up dictionary before, this is the part that was missing — the explanation fits the scene, and the word keeps coming back until it sticks. Install it, open Netflix or a YouTube video with subtitles, and click the first word you do not know. More at vocabden.com
