Overview

Bilingual subtitles: translates a video's existing captions live. Netflix, YouTube, Bilibili.

VidLingo translates the captions a video already has into a live bilingual subtitle line — the original text and its translation, updated sentence by sentence as the video plays. It doesn't generate captions for videos that don't have any. HOW IT WORKS 1. Open a supported video that already has captions or subtitles turned on. 2. Click the small floating icon that appears over the video. 3. A bilingual subtitle card appears over the video, staying in sync with playback. TRANSLATE ANY PAGE'S TEXT, TOO Beyond video subtitles, VidLingo can also translate ordinary page text: triple-click any blank area of a page, or use the always-visible floating button, to get an inline bilingual translation under paragraphs across the page — same on-device translation, same tap-to-look-up dictionary. LEARN AS YOU WATCH Click any word in the subtitle line (or in page text) to see its dictionary definition and pronunciation, with a bookmark star to save it for later. Bookmarked words can be looked up again, jumped to Google Translate, or exported/imported as a plain JSON file straight from the extension's own settings. Long-press the subtitle card (or use the "Open transcript panel" button in Settings) to see the full sentence history for the video so far, auto-scrolled to whichever line is currently playing. ON-DEVICE TRANSLATION, NO KEY REQUIRED Translation runs entirely on-device — Chrome's own built-in on-device translator (free, no key, no signup — Settings walks you through preparing the language pair you need). Nothing ever leaves your device, and VidLingo has no server of its own to relay anything through either way. REAL DICTIONARIES, NOT JUST TRANSLATION Each supported language has its own downloadable dictionary data for word lookup — nothing is bundled you don't use; each language downloads only once you ask for it. English lookup needs no download at all. DRAG IT ANYWHERE The floating subtitle card can be dragged to wherever is most comfortable over the video. Built for language learners who already spend time watching video or reading web pages in a language they're learning, and want real-time bilingual context without switching tabs or pausing to look things up elsewhere.
