Compress local video files in Chrome without uploading your media. Video Compressor helps you reduce video size, choose an output format and save a new verified copy while keeping the original unchanged. Compress video in the Side Panel Open the extension from the Chrome toolbar, then choose a local file in the Side Panel. It reads only the file you select. Add one video or use batch mode for up to 10 files; a batch runs sequentially to keep resource use predictable. Choose a clear compression goal - Use Smaller file, Balanced or Better quality presets. - Keep the source resolution or limit output to 1080p, 720p or 480p without upscaling. - Enter a target file size in MB or GB and review an estimate before starting. - Keep compatible audio or make a video-only copy. - Choose MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV output when the format and codecs are supported by your Chrome and device. These controls help you compress video size without pretending that every target can be reached exactly. If the requested target is unrealistic, the extension explains the limitation. A target file size is a goal, not a guarantee. Local and private by design This offline video compressor performs the conversion on your device. Video bytes, frames, thumbnails, filenames, paths and media metadata are not uploaded to our backend or analytics. Local video processing continues without an upload service, and optional reliability analytics are disabled by default and never include media or file metadata. The extension accepts only files you explicitly choose. It does not read videos from the current webpage, inspect browsing history, capture streams or act as a video downloader. This local processing extension uses a narrow permission set and has no access to the pages you visit. MP4 and other supported outputs Use the MP4 compressor option for a compatible H.264/AAC copy, or choose MOV, WebM or MKV when supported. You can compress MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV inputs only when their container and tracks can be decoded locally on the current Chrome/device combination. Unsupported media fails with a clear local explanation; there is no server fallback. The video file compressor checks container support instead of trusting only a filename extension. Format availability can differ by operating system, hardware and Chrome version. This makes the MP4 compressor and other output choices honest about device capability. Batch and large-file workflow Choose up to 10 local videos for sequential batch video compression. Each file receives its own destination and result. Completed files remain available if a later item needs attention. The batch video compressor never processes all videos in parallel. For a large local file, the media pipeline uses bounded queues, range-based reads and streaming writes instead of loading the whole input and output into memory at once. This design can help compress large video files, but practical limits still depend on free storage, duration, codec support, Chrome and the device. Keep Chrome open during an active job. Closing and reopening the Side Panel does not cancel it; fully exiting Chrome may require restarting the current item. Verified output and honest results Before reporting success, Video Compressor reopens the saved copy and verifies the selected container, video track, expected audio state, duration and decodable samples. If a target-size result needs correction, the extension performs at most one retry and then shows the actual size. It does not loop or claim an exact result it did not produce. Use this video compression extension to reduce video file size while preserving the original. The video size reducer uses Chrome's native save picker to create a separate copy. It does not add a watermark, delete the source or replace it automatically.
