Overview

Manage your tabs vertically and browse quicker!

================ BEFORE YOU BEGIN Browser check: Vertically Listed Tabs is built for Chrome, Brave, and Edge. Beyond that, I cannot guarantee it will work. Please do not review the extension unless you are using Chrome or Brave. Other browsers can be added if you submit a GitHub issue or email support@onlyhumn.org. About reviews: If something is preventing you from using the extension, please contact me before leaving less than a 5-star review. Email, GitHub issue, or Chrome Web Store support all work. I will fix the problem so you can leave a 5-star review. Thanks. ============ THE PROBLEM Lots of horizontal tabs at the top of the browser pile up and become tiny. When they share the same favicon, or even similar titles, finding the right tab becomes slow and frustrating. If you multitask with many tabs open, this wastes time every day. ============= OUR SOLUTION Vertically Listed Tabs opens a panel window ("VLT") and attaches it to the left or right of your normal browser window. It is not inside the tab strip or existing window. It is its own window, docked beside your browser. This allows you to even move it to a different monitor if needed. Inside VLT, tabs and groups are listed vertically. You can see many tabs at once while keeping full tab titles readable. Scan the list, click the tab you want, and it becomes active in the main window. ================ GETTING STARTED 1. Install the extension. 2. Click the puzzle piece in the top-right to open the extensions menu. 3. Pin Vertically Listed Tabs so its icon appears next to the puzzle piece. 4. Click the VLT icon. If your window is maximized or fullscreen, VLT will resize the window so the panel can attach on the side. 5. In the list, hover over a tab's favicon (the small image on the left) to show the toolbar for close, group, pin, pause, and more. 6. Open Options from the gear in the VLT toolbar (or right-click the extension icon) to set colors, width, side, and focus behaviour. ========= FEATURES • Side panel: VLT opens on the left or right (set in Options) and adjusts when you resize the window. Windows and macOS may look slightly different due to window borders. • Options: Use the gear in the VLT toolbar, or right-click the extension icon and open Options. Change colors, default width, side, and focus behaviour. Saves show a short confirmation. The options page follows your system light or dark mode. • Light and dark themes: New installs pick a light or dark panel palette from your system setting. Icons stay visible on dark backgrounds. In Options → Styling, reset to system defaults, or apply the full light or dark palette. • Click to focus: Click a tab in VLT to switch to it in the main window. The active tab scrolls into view and centers in the list. • Search: Filter the list from the search field in the toolbar. Press Ctrl+F (Cmd+F on Mac) to focus search. Search matches title and URL as plain text. Turn on regex in Options if you need it. An empty result message appears when nothing matches. • Keyboard navigation: Move through the list with the arrow keys, Home, and End. Enter or Space activates the selected tab. Roles and labels help screen readers. Press Alt+Shift+V (Option+Shift+V on Mac) to open or close the panel. Rebind it at chrome://extensions/shortcuts. • Middle-click close: Middle-click a tab in the list to close it. • Right-click menu: Right-click a tab to duplicate, reload, copy URL, move to a new window, close other tabs, close tabs below, or close duplicate tabs. • New tab and restore: Use the plus control in the toolbar to open a tab. Use the restore control to reopen the last closed tab. • Drag to reorder: Click, hold for a short moment, then drag tabs or groups to reorganize. • Hover toolbar: Hover the tab favicon to close, group, pin, or pause a tab. • Full title tooltip: Hover a tab to see the full title in the browser tooltip at once. • Color-coded groups: Groups use distinct colors so they are easy to spot. • Group tools: Collapse groups, bulk-pause tabs, or bulk-close tabs. • Rename groups: Edit group titles directly in the VLT window. • Detach and move: Detach VLT from the main window and move it to another monitor. Each browser window can have its own VLT panel. Click the VLT icon in that window to open it. • Snap and tile: Works with Windows Snap and macOS tiling so VLT can sit beside a full-screen window. Example: https://i.imgur.com/Nwg2h6z.png • Linked focus: When you switch away and click either VLT or the main browser window, both windows can come to the front together (option: Focus VLT when Main Window is Focused). • Focus follows pointer: Optionally focus the panel when the pointer enters it, and raise the main window when it leaves. Turn this off on its own in Options without turning off linked focus. • Stable scroll: The list keeps its scroll position when tabs update, so the view does not jump to the top. ============= RELEASE NOTES 3.0.1 - Fix tab drop on uncollapsed group headers. 3.0.0 - Huge rewrite for speed, CPU optimization, and new features. Pinned tabs now show at the top fixed, along with the header. See the new usage guide under the Options page for how they work. 2.0.0 - Dark default palette and options dark mode; search (Ctrl/Cmd+F), keyboard navigation, middle-click close; active tab scroll into view; scroll position kept on updates; separate focus-follows-pointer option; options save confirmation; large performance and reliability pass.
