Overview
Side panel for tabs, bookmarks and browsing history.
Keep your browsing organized in one side panel. Vertical Library brings your open tabs, native Chrome tab groups, bookmarks and browsing history together without leaving the page you are reading. TABS AND GROUPS Browse tabs in a two-column layout: select a group on the left and see its tabs on the right. Create new tabs, select multiple tabs, reorder tabs and move whole groups with drag and drop. Name and color groups, pin or mute tabs, close tabs with the middle mouse button, and restore the most recently closed tab or window. Unload individual tabs, selected tabs, a group, or all background tabs to reduce their memory use. Active tabs are skipped; unloaded tabs remain listed and reload when you activate them. You can work with the current window or all windows. BOOKMARKS Navigate bookmark folders with a breadcrumb trail, search by title or URL, and create, edit, move or delete bookmarks. Optional counters show direct subfolders and all nested bookmarks. Open a folder or selection in tabs, a new window, or an incognito window where your browser allows it. You can also open a bookmark folder as a tab group or save a tab group as a bookmark folder. HISTORY Search and browse your history with Today, Yesterday, Last 7 days, Last 30 days and All time filters. Clear a selected period or all history after confirmation. Imported history is kept in a separate local archive with its original dates; it is not inserted into Chrome's native history. LOCAL BACKUPS Choose settings, bookmarks, tabs, history, or a combination to export to a local JSON file. Preview an import and choose which sections to apply. Restore bookmark folders and tab groups without replacing your existing data. Exports are unencrypted, so keep backup files somewhere you trust. History exports include up to 10,000 recent records; JSON backups are limited to 20 MB. Repeated imports may create duplicate bookmarks or tabs. MAKE IT YOURS Choose a light, dark or system theme, adjust font size and density, and remember your last bookmark location. The interface supports English, Arabic, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Russian and French, including right-to-left layout for Arabic. Open the panel with the extension icon or a browser-configurable keyboard shortcut (suggested: Alt+Shift+V). Optional automatic closing lets you choose the delay after the mouse leaves the panel. An optional right-button + left-button mouse shortcut can open the panel from supported web pages after you grant site access. Both options are off by default. PRIVACY AND PERMISSIONS Vertical Library processes tab titles and URLs, bookmarks and browsing history on your device to display and manage them. Settings and imported history are stored locally. There is no developer server, account, advertising, analytics or automatic data upload. Exports write only the sections you choose to a local file. Tab, group, bookmark and history permissions provide the corresponding management features. Storage keeps preferences and the local archive. The sessions permission restores closed tabs, favicon access supplies tab icons, and downloads saves backups and reports their completion. The optional mouse shortcut requests site access and script execution permission only when enabled; its script handles mouse-button events rather than reading page text or form values. PLEASE NOTE Requires Chrome 116 or later. Automatic panel closing and the in-panel close buttons require the newer sidePanel.close API, available in Chrome 141 or later. The mouse shortcut does not work on browser toolbars, internal pages or other protected pages, and may conflict with built-in mouse gestures. Vertical Library does not hide or replace Chrome's native tab strip. Imported tab backups restore URLs and group structure, not login sessions, cookies, form contents or page state. Compatibility with other Chromium-based browsers depends on their support for the required extension APIs.
