Verbex — YouTube Transcript Exporter
1 rating
)Overview
A transcript button on every YouTube video. Export in TXT, SRT, or Markdown — no signup, no rate limits, no AI bills.
Verbex adds a “Transcript” button to every YouTube watch page, right next to Share and Save. Click it, pick a format, and the transcript is on your disk. That’s the whole product. 🎯 WHY VERBEX Pulling a YouTube transcript today means copy-pasting from YouTube’s clunky transcript panel, or feeding the URL into a sketchy ad-laden third-party site that asks you to sign up. Students, journalists, researchers, podcasters, language learners, and content creators all hit this friction daily. Verbex sidesteps it. 📥 EXPORT FORMATS • Plain text (.txt) — universal, opens in any editor or notes app • Subtitles (.srt) — for captioning, video editors, accessibility work • Markdown (.md) — with chapter headings, perfect for blog drafts and notes • Copy to clipboard — paste straight into another app 🎨 NATIVE-FEELING The Transcript button sits in YouTube’s own action row, at the same height and shape as Share, Save, and Like. No floating widgets, no overlays, no banners. Invisible until you need it. 📚 CHAPTER-AWARE If the video has YouTube chapters, your export gets them too — as headings in Markdown, as NOTE blocks in SRT, and as labelled sections in TXT. ⚡ POWER FEATURES • Customisable filename template — {channel} — {title}.txt, or whatever pattern you prefer • Keyboard shortcut — Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + Y exports instantly in your default format • Recent exports list in the toolbar popup • Timestamp granularity — every line, every 10 s, every 30 s, or chapter-only • Multi-language transcripts — picks the right caption track based on your settings • Human vs auto-generated caption preference 🔒 PRIVACY • No account required • No analytics, no tracking, no telemetry • No third-party servers — everything runs locally in your browser • No AI APIs — therefore no rate limits, no usage caps, no hidden costs 🛡️ PERMISSIONS (and why) • activeTab — read the current YouTube tab’s DOM when you click the button • downloads — save the exported file • storage — remember your settings and your last few exports Verbex is scoped to youtube.com only. It never touches any other site you visit. You will NOT see the dreaded “Read and change all your data on websites” permission warning. 👥 WHO IT’S FOR • Researchers and students citing or studying video content • Journalists and podcasters needing accurate quotes or SRT files for editing • Content creators repurposing competitor videos or their own back catalog • Language learners studying alongside the video • Anyone who has pasted “youtube transcript” into Google more than once 🚫 WHAT’S NOT INCLUDED (v1) • No AI summarisation today. (v1.1 will add a “Send to AI” button that opens your existing ChatGPT / Claude / Gemini tab with the transcript pre-loaded — using your own subscription, costing us nothing, so it can stay free.) • No bulk channel or playlist export • No mobile support (Chrome extensions don’t run on mobile Chrome) • No account, no analytics, no upsell, ever Free. Forever. Tiny. Built by Anas Vakyathodi Portfolio: https://anasvakyathodi.github.io/ GitHub: https://github.com/anasvakyathodi
