Overview

Asks before an accidental click or keystroke closes a Chrome window or browser. Doesn't keep you signed in or save tabs.

Varangian Session Guard: Confirm Before Closing Windows Clicked close by mistake? Give yourself a chance to cancel. Varangian Session Guard adds a confirmation step before you close a guarded Chrome window—or the whole browser. When Chrome asks “Leave site?”, choose Cancel and carry on where you left off. Why I made it: one clumsy click closed my whole browser. Many sites end your sign-in when the browser closes, so I was signing back in to everything, and when I’m researching, the tabs are a tangle no history can put back. I wanted one little warning, just enough to make me stop and think. One small pinned tab. One click to activate. Each window gets a pinned guard tab. Chrome requires you to click that page before it can show a closing confirmation. When Chrome starts, a new window opens or the extension updates, the guard tab comes forward and asks “Guard this session?”. Choose Guard to enable protection or Stand down to leave it off. Until you choose, switching tabs in that window brings you back to the prompt. After your choice, you return straight to the tab you were using. The guard then stays out of the way. You can turn protection off for an individual window with its toggle. No account. Nothing collected. No network requests. The “tabs” permission—shown by Chrome as “Read your browsing history”—is used only to find the extension’s own guard tab. Session Guard helps prevent accidental closing, which can spare you signing in again on sites that end your session when the browser closes. It cannot prevent shutdowns, restarts or crashes, and it does not save tabs or keep you signed in itself. Install Varangian Session Guard and give accidental clicks a second chance.
