UTM Randomizer
Overview
Replaces known tracking parameters in copied links with decoys or nonsense, or removes them.
Change tracking parameters in copied links before you share them. UTM Randomizer automatically replaces known tracking values with plausible decoys or nonsense, or removes the supported parameters entirely. It changes the clipboard payload while leaving page links, the address bar, browsing history, and navigation unchanged. Four modes: • Decoy — plausible replacement values. • Silly — nonsense replacement values. • Hybrid — a mix of both; enabled by default. • Remove — delete supported tracking parameters. How it works: Install the extension, keep Chrome focused, and copy a URL using Ctrl+C / Cmd+C, a site's copy button, or Copy link address. Supported URLs in compact share text are also eligible. Paste the rewritten plain-text link wherever you need it. Open Extension options to change the mode or turn cleaning off. A brief green check on the extension icon confirms a successful rewrite. Clipboard access and privacy: Cleaning is enabled by default. While it is enabled, the extension checks Chrome focus every 200 ms and reads clipboard text, HTML when present, and available format information while Chrome is focused, with one final clipboard check on focus loss. It reads new entries from any source during a focused interval, including entries that do not contain URLs. Starting the extension or returning to Chrome establishes an untouched baseline; existing clipboard contents are not rewritten just because Chrome gains focus. Processing happens locally in your browser. Clipboard contents are never logged, saved to extension storage, or transmitted. The current entry is held temporarily in memory to detect changes and avoid repeated rewrites; no clipboard history is accumulated. Only the on/off and mode settings are saved locally. There are no network requests, analytics, telemetry, website access permissions, or injected page scripts. Supported campaign parameters and ad click IDs are handled conservatively. Other URL bytes are preserved; recognized signed links, non-URL text, long prose-dominated documents, and detectable non-text formats are left unchanged. Changed entries are written as plain text. Randomized modes draw fresh replacements for each newly observed eligible clipboard entry; recopying identical contents without an intervening change cannot be detected as a new copy. Requires Chrome 123 or later. Source code, supported parameters, limitations, and privacy policy: https://github.com/pszemraj/utm-randomizer
