Upload Wizard for Smartsheet — by OmniFlow Digital

Overview
Import Excel or CSV into Smartsheet as new rows. Map your headers to any column. Creates rows only, never overwrites.
Stop retyping spreadsheets into Smartsheet. Upload Wizard imports an Excel or CSV file straight into a sheet as new rows — and it maps your file's column names to Smartsheet's, so the two don't have to match or be in the same order. CREATES ROWS. NEVER OVERWRITES. This is the whole point, and it's built in rather than promised. Upload Wizard can only append rows to the bottom of a sheet. It contains no code that edits or deletes an existing row — not disabled, not hidden behind a setting: absent. Import the same file twice and you get duplicate rows you can delete, never silently replaced data. MAP ANY HEADER TO ANY COLUMN Column names are matched ignoring case, spaces and punctuation, so "Due Date" finds "due_date" and "DUE DATE" alike. Order doesn't matter — column 7 in your file can feed column 2 in Smartsheet. Anything genuinely ambiguous is left unmapped instead of guessed, because a wrong-column guess is the kind of mistake nobody catches until much later. Fix any pairing yourself from a dropdown, and see at a glance which of your file's columns aren't going anywhere. REMEMBERS EVERY MAPPING, NOT JUST ONE One sheet usually takes files from several places, each with its own layout. Save a named mapping per source — "Acme weekly", "Globex monthly", "Region 4 export" — and pick the right one from a dropdown next time instead of re-mapping from scratch. Whichever you used last is applied automatically to the next file you drop. SEE EXACTLY WHAT WILL HAPPEN, BEFORE IT HAPPENS Every import runs as a dry run first: how many rows will be created, how many cells filled, the first five rows rendered as they'll actually land in the sheet, and every value that can't be converted — with the worksheet row number and the reason. Columns that would work get a green marker; columns holding data Smartsheet won't accept get a red one, with a count. Nothing is sent until you click Create. IT IMPORTS WHAT IT CAN, AND TELLS YOU THE REST Smartsheet rejects an entire request over a single bad cell, which is how a 34-row import turns into zero rows. Upload Wizard works row by row instead: the good rows land, a value Smartsheet won't take is simply left blank, and you get an Excel report listing every gap — worksheet row, column, the value from your file, and why. Fix those cells by hand, or correct the file and run it again. HANDLES THE MESSY PARTS OF REAL FILES • Header row isn't row 1? It finds it, shows you the names it read, and you can override. • Multi-sheet workbook? Pick the worksheet. • Real Excel dates, text dates, and date columns Excel left formatted as "General" all convert correctly. • Dropdown values are matched to your existing options ignoring case. If the column is set to "restrict to list", a value that isn't on the list is caught before the import rather than failing at the API. • Multi-select and multi-contact cells split on commas and semicolons. • Contacts are linked properly from an email address or "Name <email>" — and a name with no email is stored as plain text and flagged, never given an invented address. • Blank cells stay blank; fully blank rows are skipped. INCLUDES A TEST DATA GENERATOR The second tab generates realistic demo data for any sheet's columns — for QA, demos and training sheets. Dropdowns, checkboxes and contact columns are excluded by default, because those are what fire automations and email real people. REQUIREMENTS • A Smartsheet account and a Smartsheet API token (Personal Access Token), pasted once into the panel. The token is stored only in this extension on your computer and is never sent to OmniFlow. • Editor permission or higher on the sheet you're adding rows to. • Importing a file requires a licence. Analysing a sheet's columns and previewing an import are free. A NOTE ON AUTOMATIONS Adding rows fires a sheet's "when a row is added" automations, exactly as pasting rows by hand would. The panel warns you before writing, and tells you how to pause automations first. Built by OmniFlow Digital — tools.omniflowdigital.ai
