UnFold
Overview
Privacy-first transparency tool for job seekers
UnFold is a transparency and correspondence assistant for job seekers. After a rejection, UnFold helps you compose and send a disclosure-request letter to the employer — one that asks how AI or automated systems were used in the hiring decision — and keeps a personal record of every letter you've sent and any responses you receive. — On-demand, never always-on. — UnFold doesn't watch your inbox. By default, when you open an email in Gmail, UnFold only reads the subject line and the sender's address (signaling information that carries lower legal protection than content). If those signals match a rejection-class email, a small badge appears asking "Scan this email for disclosure eligibility?" — and the body of the email is read only if you click Scan. If you click Remove UnFold, that thread is suppressed and the badge never appears again for it. — What UnFold helps you do. — - Detect rejection emails and offer to scan them, once you choose to. - Compose disclosure-request letters tailored to your jurisdiction (California, Illinois, New York City, plus a Federal fallback for states without specific hiring-transparency laws). - Review and edit the draft before sending. UnFold never sends email on your behalf — every send hands off to your normal Gmail compose window. - Keep a personal history of every disclosure request you've sent and any responses, exportable as a zip file at any time. - Schedule follow-up reminders so you don't lose track of requests that haven't been answered. — Free vs. Pro. — Free includes the core flow: rejection detection, letter composition, response logging, history vault, export, and a 7-day reminder after each request. Pro (coming soon) adds the full follow-up cycle — Receipt Check at Day 7, Firm Follow-Up at Day 14, Formal Notice at Day 30 — plus an AI-assisted custom-reply drafter for off-schedule employer responses. — Privacy-first by design. — - UnFold does not passively scan your inbox. - UnFold does not use the Gmail API. There is no OAuth scope to grant. - UnFold does not send email on your behalf. - You retain final authorship of every letter — a "I have reviewed this draft" affirmation gates every send. - Records of letters you've sent are stored against your account and can be deleted from inside the extension at any time. On account deletion, the link between you and your records is severed; what remains is non-identifying aggregate metadata used to inform research and trend analysis. - United States residents only. UnFold is built around U.S. legal frameworks. — Not a law firm. — UnFold is a tool, not legal counsel. It does not provide legal advice, does not represent you in any proceeding, and does not connect you to attorneys. Anything you send through UnFold is your communication — UnFold supplies the template and the record-keeping; you supply the judgment. — Open development. — UnFold's source code, Terms of Service, and Privacy Policy are all publicly viewable. The extension is built with Manifest V3 and contains no remotely-loaded code.
