UNDO CLOSED TABS — WHAT'S NEW IN VERSION 3.2 This is the biggest update Undo Closed Tabs has ever had. The storage engine has been rewritten, every serious defect found in a full audit of version 3.0 has been fixed, and the popup has been rebuilt around a new design. The short version: it now reliably remembers the tabs you close, and does considerably more with them. FIXES THAT STOP YOU LOSING TABS Several core features had never actually worked. They do now. Saving tabs across a browser restart works at all. The setting "Save closed tabs even if I close Chrome" had never run once — the startup code threw an error on its first step. If you relied on it, your history was discarded every time you quit the browser. Closing a window no longer loses most of its tabs. Every save used to read the whole database, change one field, and write everything back. Close a window with twenty tabs and twenty of those operations raced each other, so nineteen of them were lost. All changes now run through a single ordered queue that writes individual entries. Clear actually clears. A subtle storage bug meant the Clear button, the "Clear saved tabs" dialog in Options, and the privacy opt-out that disables history all quietly wrote your existing data straight back. Nothing was ever removed. The Options page no longer eats your history. It used to snapshot the entire database when it opened and rewrite that snapshot every time you moved a slider, erasing anything you had closed in the meantime. It now saves only the setting you changed. No more phantom reopens. A dead gesture detector fired "reopen the last closed tab" whenever any two internal messages arrived close together — and simply opening the popup sent one. Opening it twice in quick succession reopened an entry and then permanently deleted it. Storage limits are honest. The history-size slider mapped onto as many as 99,999 entries against a 10 MB quota, and no code ever checked whether a write had failed. Past the limit, everything failed in silence. The range is now a realistic 10–5,000, with unlimited storage requested and every write verified. Also fixed: "Open in new window" (which always failed, after leaving an empty window behind), "Open selected" (which opened only the first few), missing favicons (the old Chrome API was removed in Chrome 104), long-lived tabs being dropped from tracking, wrong URLs appearing after a restart, keyboard navigation throwing errors, search matching raw timestamps, and results being silently capped at 1,000. NEW FEATURES Rich restore. Reopened tabs bring back your scroll position, form state and back/forward history wherever Chrome still has the session — not just the URL. Restore a whole window in one click, tab groups included. Undo the undo: reopened something by mistake? Press Alt+Shift+Z. Pin entries to protect them from trimming, expiry and Clear, so the tabs you care about survive. Search v2. Fuzzy matching, relevance ranking, and filters — search site:github.com to narrow to one domain, or after:2d and before:today to narrow by when you closed it. The result count is now accurate. Keyboard-first. Press / to search, arrows to move, Enter to restore, Shift+Enter for a new window, Ctrl+1–9 to jump to an entry, Space to select, Ctrl+A for all, Delete to remove, p to pin. Omnibox. Type "undo" then a space in the address bar and search your closed tabs without opening anything. Side panel. Keep the list open beside the page you are reading. Export and import. JSON that round-trips cleanly, CSV for spreadsheets, and standard bookmark HTML that imports into any browser. Optional sync of your recent closed tabs across your devices, off by default. A per-row menu with open, open in background, open in new window, copy URL, pin and delete. A toolbar right-click menu for reopening the last tab or the last five. Entries grouped by Today, Yesterday and Earlier. Scrolling that stays fast however long your list is. A REDESIGNED POPUP New light and dark themes, cleaner rows with real favicons, and a prominent "Reopen last closed tab" button with its Alt+Z shortcut shown inline. The most useful settings now live inside the popup itself, behind the slider icon, so you rarely need the full Options page. Selecting several tabs switches the list into an explicit selection mode, so a multi-select can no longer turn into an accidental restore. Clearing confirms inline instead of interrupting you with a dialog box. PRIVACY Everything stays on your device. Nothing is sent to any server. Incognito tabs are ignored unless you explicitly opt in. You can add a per-site blocklist so chosen sites are never recorded, and have entries delete themselves automatically after a chosen age. Options includes a plain-language explanation of what the extension can see, a storage dashboard, and a local error log that is never transmitted. Undo Closed Tabs requires Chrome 116 or later. The interface is available in 41 languages, all freshly translated for this release.
