UK Gambling Licence Check
Overview
Check whether the site you are on is a domain licensed by the UK Gambling Commission. Offline, no tracking.
Is the site you are looking at licensed to offer gambling in Great Britain? UK Gambling Licence Check answers that one question. Click the toolbar icon and it tells you whether the domain of the tab you are on appears on the Gambling Commission's public register of licensed domain names — along with the name and account number of the company that actually holds the licence. That check is genuinely tedious by hand. The Commission publishes the register as a spreadsheet of thousands of rows, so looking up a single domain means downloading a file, opening it, and searching it. Most people never bother. This does it in one click. WHAT YOU SEE Licensed, active — the domain is on the register with an active entry, held by the operator named in the result. Licensed, inactive — the domain is on the register, but the entry is no longer active. Worth a closer look. White label — the domain trades under another company's licence. That matters: the licensee shown, not the brand on the page, is the company legally responsible for your money and your complaints. Not listed — the domain is not in the register. This is information, not a verdict. Most of the web is not a gambling site, new domains take time to appear, and operators licensed elsewhere are legitimately absent from a register of Great Britain permissions. If the data has not loaded, the extension says so rather than guessing. An extension that quietly reported every site as unlisted would be worse than one that says nothing. PRIVACY BY DESIGN No tracking, no analytics, no telemetry, no advertising, no accounts, no data collection of any kind. The lookup happens entirely on your own device against a local copy of the register. The extension asks for one permission at install — activeTab — which lets it read the current tab's domain only at the moment you click the icon, and only until the popup closes. It has no standing access to any website and cannot watch your browsing. Left alone it makes no network requests at all. If you switch on the optional weekly update, the single request it makes is an anonymous download of the Commission's own published file. Nothing about you is ever sent anywhere. KEEPING IT CURRENT The popup always shows the date of the data it is using, so you can see how fresh it is. Turn on weekly updates and it refreshes itself from the Commission's published file. Prefer no network access at all? Download the CSV yourself and drop it onto the setup page instead. WHAT IT DELIBERATELY DOES NOT DO It does not rank, rate, review or recommend operators. It does not tell you whether a site is trustworthy, whether its terms are fair, or whether you should use it. A licence is a legal permission, not a quality score. It checks one fact and reports it. Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Gambling Commission. Register data is Crown copyright, reused under the Open Government Licence v3.0. The bundled register is a snapshot and may be out of date — always confirm against the Commission's own register. 18+.
