Organize your tabs: group by site or by rule, collapse groups automatically, and rename tabs by URL.

Tytab keeps your tab strip readable. New tabs are filed into the right group the moment they finish loading, groups fold away when you are not using them, and any page can carry a name you choose instead of whatever title the site ships. Everything runs locally in your browser. No account, no sign-in, no data sent anywhere. AUTOMATIC GROUPING Turn it on and every new tab lands in a group by itself. Two modes: • By site — the group is chosen by name. A tab on docs.youtube.com looks for a group called "youtube" and joins it. Matching ignores upper and lower case, so a group you created by hand also gets picked up. Subdomains count as the same site, and a port is part of the name, so localhost:3000 and localhost:8080 stay in separate groups. • By preset — you decide the name, the color, and the list of sites that belong to it. Put github.com and gitlab.com under "Code" and both land in the same group. Sites you did not list stay loose. Both modes share these controls: • Minimum tabs to create a group — from 1 to 20. A brand new group is only created once you have this many loose tabs from the same site or the same preset. Set it to 1 to group from the very first tab. Joining a group that already exists never waits for the minimum. • Automatic color per site — every site always gets the same color, so you learn to spot your groups by color alone. Or turn it off and pick one fixed color. • Ignored sites — one per line, never grouped automatically. "localhost" ignores every port; "localhost:3000" ignores only that one. Pinned tabs are left alone, and internal pages are never grouped: the new tab page, chrome:// pages, other extensions, and local files. COLLAPSING GROUPS • Collapse on tab switch — every time you move to another tab, the groups you are not in fold up. The group holding the tab you switched to always stays open. Switching windows does the same for that window. • Per group — the settings page lists the groups you have open right now, in every window, plus your preset names. Each one gets its own checkbox, so the group you always want open stays open while the rest fold away. Your choice is remembered by group name. • Collapse new groups — a group folds up as soon as it is created. When the group holds the tab you are looking at, the browser will not fold it, so Tytab folds it on your next tab switch instead. RENAME TABS BY URL Some pages have useless titles, and some have titles that change while you read. Give them a name of your own: • A rule is a pattern plus a name. The pattern can be a piece of the URL, like github.com/my-org, or use * for anything, like https://*.atlassian.net/browse/*. • Rules are checked from top to bottom and the first match wins, so you can put a narrow rule above a broad one. • Each rule has its own on/off switch, so you can park one without deleting it. • If the site rewrites the title after loading, your name comes back. • Remove the rule and the original title returns on the next load. Nothing is permanent. Renaming needs permission to run on websites, because a tab title only exists inside the page itself. That permission is optional and is requested when you turn renaming on — turn it off and Tytab hands it back. Everything else works without it. Renaming applies to http and https pages. THE POPUP Click the icon for every tab in the window, sorted into its group: • Filter by title, URL, or site as you type. • Select tabs with a click, or a range with shift+click, or a whole group with the checkbox in its header. • Turn a selection into a new group with the name and color you choose, or ungroup it, or close it. • Per group: rename it, change its color, fold or unfold it, ungroup it, or close every tab in it. • Collapse all, expand all, or ungroup every group in the window — the last one asks first. • Pinned tabs and loose tabs get their own sections, with a count on each group. Right-clicking the toolbar icon gives you the same four window-wide actions without opening the popup: group tabs by site, ungroup all tabs, collapse all groups, expand all groups. SETTINGS One page, two tabs: grouping and renaming. Every option explains what it does in plain language, changes save as you make them, and there is a Restore defaults button. Settings travel with your Chrome profile, so a second computer signed into the same profile picks them up. PRIVACY Tytab reads tab titles and URLs to decide which group a tab belongs to, and stores your own settings. That is all, and none of it leaves your browser. There is no analytics, no tracking, no remote server, and no code loaded from the internet. Requires Chrome 116 or newer.
