Typist
Overview
VS Code-style text editing for every browser text box. Wrapping, smart typography, and Cmd/Ctrl+D. Nothing leaves your machine.
Typist brings the text-editing shortcuts you already know from VS Code to every text field on the web — comment boxes, chat inputs, email, issue trackers, and rich editors. SMART WRAPPING Select a word and press a bracket or quote — Typist wraps the selection and keeps it selected. Ten pairs built in ( [ { < " ' ` * _ ~ ), and you can add your own Unicode or emoji pairs. SMART TYPOGRAPHY Type the shorthand, get the character: -> becomes →, -- becomes –, ... becomes …, (c) becomes ©, and more. It's Markdown-aware, so it never rewrites text inside inline `code` or fenced code blocks. MULTI-CURSOR (⌘/Ctrl-D) Select a word and press ⌘/Ctrl-D to grab the next occurrence, and again for the one after. Type once and every cursor changes together — just like VS Code. PRIVATE BY DESIGN No accounts. No servers. No analytics. Nothing you type ever leaves your browser. Typist asks for only two permissions: "storage" (to remember your settings on your device) and "activeTab". YOURS TO TUNE Toggle any feature on or off, per site or globally, from the toolbar popup. Add custom wrap pairs and typography rules, disable Typist on specific sites, and export or import your settings from the options page. Works in text inputs, textareas, and rich contenteditable editors. It skips password and number fields and anything read-only. Free. Local-first. No tracking.
