Twinread: Bilingual Page Translator
Overview
Bilingual page translation using the translator built into Chrome. It runs on your device; nothing you read leaves your computer.
Twinread translates web pages with the translator that is built into Google Chrome. It puts the translation under each paragraph so you can read both, or swaps it in. Nothing is sent to a server: Chrome does the work on your computer, and there are no accounts and no API keys. WHAT YOU GET • Translate a whole page with Alt+A or from the toolbar. Visible paragraphs come first, and new content that loads as you scroll is picked up • Bilingual view (translation under the original) or translation only. Switch at any time, without translating again, and go back to the untouched original with one click • Four looks for the translation: subtle, underline, highlight, or dim the original • Select text and get a small card with the translation and a copy button. Hold Alt over a paragraph to translate just that paragraph • Code, forms, editable areas, hidden text and one-word menu labels are left alone. Text already in your language is skipped. Links in the original stay clickable • Language pair with a swap button. The page language is detected for you, and you can set it by hand FREE VS PRO Free: everything above, with no limit on pages or length. Pro: translate chosen sites automatically as they load, translate what you type into the page's language (Alt+Shift+Enter, Ctrl+Z undoes it), a glossary that keeps or changes chosen terms, and custom styles. New installs get 7 days of Pro, free, no card required. After that Pro is a one-time pass, €12 for a month or €79 for a year. It does not renew and there is no subscription. One licence works on up to 3 browsers. GOOD TO KNOW • Needs Google Chrome 138 or later on desktop. Other browsers, including Chromium builds, cannot run Chrome's built-in translator, and Twinread says so • Chrome downloads a small language model once for each language pair you use. After that translation works without a connection • Chrome lets a page use its language model only after a click, once per website. The toolbar button, the shortcuts and text selection take care of that; on a site you set to translate automatically, the first visit shows a Start translating button • Pages served over plain http cannot be translated, because Chrome only enables its translator on https pages • Always-translate asks Chrome for access to one site at a time, only when you switch it on for that site. Twinread needs no access to any site at install PRIVACY The text you translate never leaves your computer. The only data that leaves your browser is your licence key, when a Pro pass is activated or re-checked. Twinread is an independent product and is not affiliated with Google.
