Tube Transcript – Transcript & Highlights for YouTube

Overview
Read, search and highlight YouTube transcripts next to the video. No account, highlights stay local. Not affiliated with YouTube.
Tube Transcript opens the transcript of a YouTube video in a sidebar next to the player. Read along as the video plays, search for a word, jump to any line, and highlight the parts you want to keep, with notes. Everything stays in your browser: no account, no sign-up. What you can do • Open the transcript with the Transcript button next to CC, or press Alt+T. • Follow along: the line that is playing is marked and the sidebar scrolls with the video. Chapters are shown when the video has them. • Search for a word and click any line to jump to that moment. • Mark text in five colors and add a note. Each one appears as a marker on the video's progress bar. • See the highlights from every video on the My highlights page, with search and a color filter. • Copy the text, with or without timestamps, or download it as TXT, SRT, VTT or JSON. • Choose the caption language when a video has more than one track. • Works with YouTube's light and dark themes, theater mode and fullscreen. Keyboard shortcuts Alt+T opens or closes the sidebar (change it at chrome://extensions/shortcuts). In the sidebar: / search · ↑ ↓ move between lines · Enter jump · H highlight · Shift+H choose a color · C copy a line · Esc close. Privacy Highlights, notes and settings are saved only in this browser's extension storage; the extension does not encrypt them itself. Captions are read from what YouTube already loads and are cleared when you close the browser. There are no analytics, and nothing is sent to our servers. While you type a note or a search, the YouTube page can observe the key presses, as it can for any typing on youtube.com. Full policy: https://tubetranscript.io/privacy#extension Limits • Works on video pages of www.youtube.com in desktop Chrome. • The video needs captions, uploaded or auto-generated. Shorts, live streams in progress, YouTube Music and embedded videos are not supported. • Highlights are kept in one browser. Export them as JSON from My highlights to keep a backup or move them. Website and support Need the text of a video without captions, or an API? Our website tubetranscript.io offers those as a separate service.
