Overview

Treedent transforms tab chaos into clarity, using intuitive tree-structured navigation designed for focus and flow.

==================================================== TREEDENT ==================================================== Treedent is a privacy-first tree-style tab manager for Google Chrome. It transforms overwhelming tab chaos into a structured, collapsible tree. Tabs opened from a page stay linked as children, so browsing sessions keep their context. Whether you work with research-heavy workflows, many windows, or long-running sessions, Treedent helps you stay organized and keep control. Treedent v2 uses a rebuilt runtime focused on reliability: session state is managed authoritatively in the background, with deterministic persistence and restoration. ==================== KEY FEATURES ==================== ▪ Authoritative Session Runtime (v2) Treedent now uses a background-owned source of truth for session and tree state, improving consistency and reducing drift. ▪ Tree-Style Sidebar View tabs and folders in a nested hierarchy and collapse branches to reduce noise. ▪ Drag-and-Drop Reordering and Nesting Move tabs or whole branches exactly where you need them in the tree. ▪ Search, Multi-Select, and Bulk Actions Find items quickly and apply actions across multiple tabs at once. ▪ Snapshot History and Restore Capture workspace snapshots and restore full sessions or individual snapshot windows. ▪ All-Live Active-Window Management View and manage trees from all live Chrome windows, activate a window, and move or import items between available windows. ▪ URL-Based Folder Rules Automatically place matching unpinned tabs into folders using ordered starts-with, exact-match, or regular-expression URL rules. ▪ Deterministic Startup Recovery Treedent applies explicit restore rules for restart, crash, and interrupted-runtime scenarios while avoiding accidental session overwrite. ▪ Tab and Branch Operations Activate, pin/unpin, duplicate, refresh, mute, discard, close, copy link, and run branch-level actions. ▪ Window Workflows Move selected items to new or existing windows and import trees from other windows, with live-window targeting. ▪ In-Page Sidebar Mode Use Treedent in Chrome side panel mode or in-page injected mode with configurable position, width, and behavior. ▪ Deep Focus and Auto-Collapse Focus on one branch at a time and reduce unrelated tree noise during tab switching. ▪ Options, Logs, and Debugging Configure behavior, language, and styling, and inspect logs, snapshots, and runtime diagnostics directly in the extension UI. ▪ Onboarding, Contextual Help, and Recovery Guidance Follow the built-in onboarding tour, replay Help when needed, and get contextual guidance for common empty, restoring, or recovery states. ▪ Flexible Theming and Styling Use consistent styling across the sidebar and Options, with built-in themes, live preview, saved custom themes, and advanced style settings. ▪ Privacy-First Design No hidden telemetry. Your tab/session data stays local in your browser. ▪ Keyboard and Drop Shortcuts Open the current page in a standalone popup with [Ctrl+Shift+F] ([Command+Shift+F] on macOS), or drop text and URLs into the tree to open an external search tab at the drop location. ============================= FEATURES UNDER DEVELOPMENT ============================= • Optional Cloud Sync Sync trees, workspaces, and settings across devices (planned, opt-in). • Collaboration Features Shared workflows and multi-user session capabilities are planned for future releases. ==================== WHAT'S NEW ==================== ---------------------------------------------------- Treedent 2.3.1 • Onboarding tour interaction fix ---------------------------------------------------- This maintenance release restores reliable interaction with the onboarding tour in the sidebar. • Moved the tour into the sidebar status area and fixed its controls so Back, Next, Skip, Finish, and Retry can be clicked normally. ---------------------------------------------------- Treedent 2.3.0 • Live windows, URL rules, Help, and reliability improvements ---------------------------------------------------- Treedent 2.3.0 builds on the privacy-safe Incognito and diagnostics work in 2.2.0 with broader live-window control, clearer guidance, and more reliable session synchronization. • Manage all live Chrome-window trees together, activate a target window, and move or import selected items between windows while keeping each tree scoped correctly. • Add the first URL rule to an eligible live, unpinned folder, choose its target with window and folder breadcrumb labels, and use either global or contextual Add with explicit Save or Cancel controls. Review examples for starts-with, exact, and regular-expression matching; workspace names remain gated and are not generally exposed because workspaces are not implemented. • Use the improved Rules and Help experiences for clearer rule setup, examples, onboarding, and actionable guidance for getting started or handling restoring, empty, or degraded states. • Benefit from general sidebar usability, pointer behavior, scrollbar visibility, selection handling, and localization improvements. • Open the current page in a standalone popup with [Ctrl+Shift+F] ([Command+Shift+F] on macOS), or drop text and URLs into the tree to open an external search tab exactly where you drop it. • Activate sidebar tabs immediately on mouse press for faster navigation and more responsive tab switching. • Keep styling and themes consistent across the sidebar and Options with inherited style tokens, built-in themes, live preview, and saved custom themes. • Improve restoration reliability with safer authoritative-session recovery, stronger browser synchronization, and fixes for tab-group moves, child-tab placement, and requested tree order. • Extend diagnostics and static quality checks to make runtime behavior easier to inspect and maintain. • Use Treedent in Incognito after enabling [Allow in Incognito] on the extension details page. Private trees stay temporary and are never saved to or restored from your regular session. • Inspect live extension diagnostics with whole-history filtering, older/newer navigation, expandable details, clear, and full download. • Choose custom text and background colors with opacity controls, use more settings directly from the sidebar toolbar, and limit how many inactive tabs may be discarded per scan. This release also improves favicon recovery and browser-session synchronization, and fixes Chrome tab-group moves so tabs no longer snap back, absorb unrelated tabs, or lose their requested tree order. ---------------------------------------------------- Version 2.1.1 • Tab group sync fix ---------------------------------------------------- • Fixed child tabs created from the sidebar appearing outside mirrored Chrome tab groups. • New child tabs now join the correct browser tab group immediately when tab group sync is enabled. • Improved create-tab synchronization reliability between Treedent’s tree model and Chrome tabs. ---------------------------------------------------- Version 2.1.0 • Tab groups, faster sidebar workflows, and localization updates ---------------------------------------------------- Description: This release adds browser tab group support and new sidebar controls, improves activation and sync responsiveness, and expands localization and options UX polish. --- Features --- • Added browser tab group support with refined tab-group mirroring behavior. • Added sidebar toolbar overflow controls for quicker access to advanced actions. • Added URL-based sidebar search for faster tab discovery. • Added sidebar toggles for restore placeholders and automatic inactive-tab discard. • Added visible restore-placeholder markers in sidebar tab rows. --- Improvements --- • Improved tab activation and sidebar refresh latency for a more responsive workflow. • Improved deep-focus branch placement preservation during browser sync. • Improved startup active-session persistence reliability. • Improved options widget layout and section readability. • Improved locale coverage by packaging and translating newly added messages. --- Bug Fixes --- • Fixed sidebar double-click rename handling. • Fixed interaction issues by removing delayed handle-click activation behavior. • Fixed Belarusian locale message wording for newly added settings/status labels. • Fixed pages CTA browser-label replacement scope to avoid unintended substitutions. • Changed default behavior: restore placeholders are now disabled by default (`useRestorePlaceholders=false`). ---------------------------------------------------- Version 2.0.3 • Runtime recovery and diagnostics improvements ---------------------------------------------------- Description: This update improves runtime reliability by adding automatic recovery paths and expands diagnostics for scheduled auto-discard and startup restore behavior. --- Features --- • Added scheduled auto-discard diagnostics with richer runtime events and troubleshooting details. • Added options/debugging visibility for auto-discard scheduler state and recent scan outcomes. • Added automatic resolution for stale pending startup-restore decisions by restoring and preserving unmatched browser tabs. --- Improvements --- • Improved session-change broadcasting with attached refreshed read-model state for more reliable sidebar updates. • Improved startup restore policy handling by normalizing legacy ask-style policy to restore-and-keep behavior. --- Bug Fixes --- • Fixed replay-failure handling to clear invalid journal entries and recover with a ready snapshot state instead of remaining degraded. • Fixed startup restore edge cases so meaningful existing browser tabs are preserved during automatic restore flows. • Fixed diagnostic persistence and synchronization edge cases around scheduled auto-discard state reporting. ---------------------------------------------------- Version 2.0.2 • Sidebar shortcut parity and placement stability updates ---------------------------------------------------- Description: This update restores a v1 sidebar shortcut in v2 and improves tab placement and synchronization reliability during restore and runtime reconciliation. --- Features --- • Reintroduced sidebar double-click shortcuts from v1 to quickly create tabs and folders in v2. --- Improvements --- • Improved new-tab placement accuracy by using navigation signals during reconciliation. --- Bug Fixes --- • Fixed shift-click behavior to close the intended tab branch from the sidebar. • Fixed blocked browser sync coalescing to avoid missed or delayed synchronization runs. • Fixed closed-tab restoration placement to keep restored tabs in the expected tree location. ---------------------------------------------------- Version 2.0.1 • Drag-and-drop and child-tab ordering fixes ---------------------------------------------------- Description: This patch improves tree editing consistency by fixing edge cases in multi-item drag-and-drop and child-tab placement order. --- Bug Fixes --- • Fixed an issue where moving multiple selected items as one drag block could behave incorrectly. • Fixed browser ordering for newly created child tabs so placement is consistent with tree expectations. ---------------------------------------------------- Version 2.0.0 • Treedent v2 and authoritative session runtime ---------------------------------------------------- Description: This major release introduces the v2 architecture with background-owned authoritative session state, deterministic restoration, and a rebuilt options and diagnostics surface. --- Features --- • Added authoritative background runtime ownership for session state and tree updates. • Added deterministic startup restore flow with pending-restore confirmation when existing browser sessions are detected. • Added full snapshot history controls for restoring complete snapshots or individual windows. • Added in-page sidebar presentation mode with configurable position, width, overlay/page-space behavior, auto-collapse, and trigger area. • Added expanded options tabs for Features, Styling, Language, Logs, Snapshots, and Debugging. --- Improvements --- • Improved persistence reliability by combining periodic snapshots with debounced snapshot writes and bounded retention. • Improved recovery visibility with richer debug state, journal status, and restore diagnostics. • Improved branch and multi-selection workflows for close, discard, move, import, pin, and reorder actions. • Improved customization with advanced style tokens, saved custom themes, and theme import/export. • Improved startup/session consistency by enforcing restore precedence and sync blocking during restore-sensitive phases. --- Bug Fixes --- • Fixed multiple restore and reconciliation edge cases that could flatten or drift tree structure during startup transitions. • Fixed persistence replay fallback behavior when journal entries cannot be safely applied. • Fixed assorted sidebar and runtime stability issues across drag-drop, command dispatch, and state refresh flows.
