Save YouTube transcripts and turn videos into summaries, visual maps, notes, slides and study materials with ChatGPT or Claude. Keep a searchable local library and use your own AI account. No API key or Transcription subscription required. SUMMARIZE AND CREATE Choose a short summary, visual summary, key takeaways, detailed notes, action items, simple explanation, presentation / PPT, flashcards and quiz, or your own prompt. The task picker is available by default after saving. Skip it for any video or turn it off in the popup. Choose ChatGPT or Claude, then Copy & open and paste/send there. For automatic filling and sending, enable it for the selected assistant in the popup and allow Chrome’s site-access request. Each provider has its own opt-in. Uses your assistant’s web account, including available free access. Its sign-in, usage limits and file-creation capabilities apply. PowerPoint output may be a slide outline when file creation is unavailable. Long transcripts may need a manually attached .txt file. KEEP AND FIND THE SOURCE Save available YouTube captions in Chrome. Search titles, channels and transcript text. Read captions with timestamp links back to YouTube. Copy text or download .txt files with optional timestamps. Export Chrome library data and preferences as JSON; no import or restore interface is provided. GET STARTED 1. Open a captioned video on desktop YouTube and click Transcript beside the video actions. 2. Choose a task and assistant, then continue—or Skip to keep just the transcript. 3. Open the popup and choose Open Chrome library to find saved videos. Saving also copies text and downloads a timestamped file by default. Change these under Copy & download preferences. Automatic AI sending starts off and requires the user’s opt-in and selected assistant’s site access. YOUR LIBRARY AND YOUR CHOICES Saved transcripts stay in Chrome’s local storage. There is no developer transcript server, advertising, analytics or developer cloud sync. Caption requests go to YouTube. Continuing with an AI task copies the selected prompt, video metadata and transcript and opens ChatGPT or Claude. Manual mode requires paste/send; automatic mode sends through your signed-in account. The selected provider’s privacy policy and account settings apply. Transcripts are not sent to the developer. The extension writes to the clipboard and does not read it. KNOW BEFORE YOU INSTALL YouTube must provide captions accessible in your browser session. The extension does not transcribe audio, generate missing captions or bypass restrictions. Caption accuracy depends on the source. YouTube and assistant interface changes can affect compatibility; manual paste/send remains available. One transcript is kept per video; saving again can replace its language and text. Uninstalling removes Chrome extension data. Downloaded files remain separate; keep exports private. Video, audio, SRT and VTT downloads are not supported. The interface is in English. The optional Transcript Vault Mac companion is a separate local development build with notes, stars and recoverable Trash. It is not required for Chrome features. WHY THESE PERMISSIONS YouTube access and scripting retrieve the selected video’s captions. Storage keeps the library and preferences. Clipboard write and downloads let you take text with you. Native messaging connects to the optional Mac app. Optional chatgpt.com or claude.ai access enables only the automatic handoff you choose.
