Traffic Pill
Overview
A small always-on-top meter showing what Chrome is sending and receiving right now.
Traffic Pill is a small floating meter that shows what Chrome is sending and receiving, as it happens. Click it to see which companies the page you're on is talking to, what each request is for, and which ones are tracking you. KEY FEATURES • Live meter, always on top A compact pill floats over your other windows and shows download and upload speed in real time. A 60-second waveform shows received data above the line and sent data below it. • Every request explained in plain English Open the Log and click any request to see what kind of request it was, what its result code means, which company runs the domain, what that company does, and whether it went to the site you're on or to a third party. • Know who's behind every domain Over 5,000 tracker and service domains are matched to the company that runs them, with a short description of each company. Sites, Today and Log all show the company name next to the domain. • Trackers flagged, and blocked with one click Advertising and analytics domains are marked "tracker" when they show up on someone else's site. Click Block to stop that tracker everywhere. Pages keep loading normally. The Blocked view lists everything you've blocked, with one-click Unblock. • See where your data goes Break down traffic by Sites, Tabs or Types (scripts, images, beacons and more), with sent and received totals for each. Today shows the hungriest sites of the day and keeps a week of history, even while the window is closed. • A log that holds still while you read The request log streams live but pauses while your pointer is over it, so rows don't jump away. New requests wait behind a "new" button until you're ready. • Private by design Everything stays on your computer. Traffic Pill doesn't send anything anywhere, has no account and no analytics, and only keeps daily totals for the last 7 days. HOW TO USE IT 1. Pin Traffic Pill and click its icon. A pinned Traffic Pill tab opens. 2. Click Pop out to get the floating window. 3. Click the pill to expand it, and click again or hit Minimise to shrink it back into the corner. Keep the pinned tab open, because it powers the floating window. GOOD TO KNOW • Only Chrome's own traffic is measured, not other apps on your computer. • Sizes come from what servers report. "~" means the server didn't say. Cached files count as zero. • WebSocket traffic (live chat, some dashboards) isn't measured. CREDITS Company and category data comes from DuckDuckGo Tracker Radar (https://github.com/duckduckgo/tracker-blocklists) and Ghostery TrackerDB (https://github.com/ghostery/trackerdb), both used under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. Traffic Pill is free and non-commercial.
