TorAI-Translate is a lightweight, privacy-focused translation extension with a unique **dual-tier model**: built-in free engines you can use immediately, plus bring-your-own-key options for advanced users. ★ Dual-tier translation engines • **Built-in free tier**: Google Translate and Microsoft Translator work out of the box—no API key required. Powered by a secure developer proxy with strict quota limits (Google: 500k chars/month, Microsoft: 2M chars/month shared across all users). The proxy does NOT log your text. • **Bring-your-own-key tier**: Optionally configure DeepL or any custom OpenAI-compatible AI endpoint (OpenAI, Ollama, etc.) with your own API key for private, direct-to-provider translation. Your key stays on your device only. ★ Two ways to translate • Select any text on a page to get an instant translation popup. • Translate the whole page in immersive bilingual mode (original + translation side by side), or replace the original text in place. Toggle back anytime. ★ Privacy by design • Built-in free tier: Text goes through the developer's Cloudflare Worker proxy to Google/Microsoft APIs. The proxy enforces quotas but **does NOT log or store your text**. • Bring-your-own-key tier: Your API keys are stored ONLY on your device. Text is sent directly from your browser to the provider you chose—no developer involvement. • No tracking, no analytics, no telemetry. ★ Custom AI prompts (bring-your-own-key tier) For custom AI engines, edit the prompt template to control translation tone and style.
