TopReq API Client is a local-first API client for Chrome. Use it to design, send, and debug HTTP, GraphQL, WebSocket, and Server-Sent Events (SSE) requests without leaving the browser — and without uploading your collections to someone else’s cloud. If you test APIs every day, you already know the pain: bouncing between docs, terminals, and heavy desktop tools, or pasting tokens into apps that want an account before you can save a request. TopReq is built for the opposite workflow: open the extension, organize your requests, hit Send, inspect the response, and keep working. Your collections stay on this machine. WHY INSTALL TOPREQ • One client for modern APIs — REST/HTTP, GraphQL, WebSockets, and SSE in the same workspace • Local by default — collections, environments, and history live in your browser; TopReq does not sync them to a TopReq cloud • Fast to open — click the toolbar icon and get a full-tab workspace (sidebar + request/response editor) • Familiar structure — collections and folders, tabs for open requests, environments with {{variables}} • Built for real debugging — headers, params, auth, body modes, response pretty/raw views, and stream event logs WHAT TOPREQ DOES 1) Organize your API work Create collections for each project or service. Nest folders for auth, users, payments, webhooks — whatever matches how you think about the API. Drag requests and folders to rearrange as your suite grows. Rename, move, and delete with clear confirmations when you want them. 2) Build and send HTTP & GraphQL Pick the protocol, method, and URL. Add query params, path params, headers, cookies, and auth. Shape bodies as raw JSON/text, urlencoded, or form-data. For GraphQL, edit the query, variables, and operation name in one place. Send and see status, timing, size, headers, and body immediately. 3) Work with live connections Open a WebSocket, send messages, and watch traffic as it arrives. Connect to SSE endpoints and follow server-pushed events in the stream log. Disconnect when you’re done — no separate tool required for “the realtime part.” 4) Use environments like you mean it Keep base URLs, API keys, and tokens in environments. Reference them with {{variable}} syntax in URLs, headers, auth, and bodies. Switch environments when you move between local, staging, and production without rewriting every request. 5) Keep a private history Recent runs stay on your machine so you can reopen what you just tested. Cap how much history you keep in Settings. Clear it when you want a clean slate. WHO IT’S FOR • Backend and full-stack developers exercising endpoints while they build • Frontend developers verifying APIs before wiring UI • QA and support engineers reproducing issues with the exact request that failed • Anyone who wants a capable API client without creating yet another SaaS account for “save my collection” PRIVACY & NETWORKING (PLAIN LANGUAGE) TopReq stores your collections, environments, and history in IndexedDB in this browser profile. There is no TopReq cloud sync for that data. When you send HTTP, GraphQL, or SSE requests, the extension performs them through its background service so browser CORS rules don’t block legitimate API testing. WebSockets connect directly from the TopReq page. Requests go to the hosts you enter — not to a TopReq proxy service you didn’t ask for. You will be asked to grant broad host access because an API client must call arbitrary URLs you choose while testing. TopReq uses that access only to perform the requests you initiate. HOW TO GET STARTED 1. Install TopReq API Client from the Chrome Web Store 2. Click the TopReq icon in the toolbar to open the full client tab 3. Explore the Examples collection, or create your own collection and first request 4. Set environment variables (for example baseUrl and apiKey) 5. Press Send and inspect the response From there, save requests you reuse, group them into folders, and grow a local library of the APIs you actually work with. WHY TEAMS AND INDIVIDUALS PICK A LOCAL CLIENT Cloud API clients are powerful, but they often pull your specs, tokens, and customer-shaped payloads into someone else’s infrastructure. TopReq keeps the day-to-day loop local: same machine, same browser profile, same privacy expectations you already apply to editor extensions and local notes. Install it when you want speed and clarity without the account wall.
