Turn up quiet video and audio without turning it to mush. Most volume boosters just multiply the gain. Past about 200% the loudest parts of the sound hit the ceiling, flatten out, and speech starts to crackle. You get louder and worse at the same time. This one puts a compressor in front of the gain. The loud parts are pulled down first, so the quiet parts can come up without the peaks hitting the wall. It sounds louder, not harsher. Three of them are at or below normal, because a video that is shouting is the same problem as one that is whispering, and 100% puts the volume back without losing your preset. The steps get wider as they get louder, because that is how hearing works. No two of them are a difference you cannot hear. The slider is still there if you want 400%. EVERY TAB, OR JUST THIS ONE Everywhere is the default: one setting, every tab, for anyone who simply needs things louder. Switch to This Tab for the one video that was mastered wrong, and that tab is then on its own: turning it up does not turn up anything else, and turning everything else up does not touch it. A tab's own setting is temporary. It is never written to disk and it goes when you close the tab, because you were watching one video, not configuring something. Chrome only lets an extension touch a tab's audio after you click its icon on that tab, so nothing happens on a page until you ask it to. That is not a limitation we chose, and it is the reason this cannot listen to you in the background. BOTH CHANNELS IN BOTH EARS Mono sums the left and right channels into both ears. If you hear from one ear, or you are using a single earbud, a stereo mix silently loses you half the dialogue. There is also a left and right balance slider. IT TELLS YOU WHEN IT IS TOO LOUD Above 300% the level turns red. You are allowed to go loud, you just should not end up there by accident. The maximum is 600%, and the default is 100%, because a volume tool should never be loud before you ask it to be. IT DOES NOT LEAVE YOUR PAGE SILENT The way this kind of extension usually breaks is not "too quiet", it is silence: it takes the tab's audio and never gives it back. This one always routes the sound onward, releases the tab when you reset, and drops the boost when you navigate away or close the tab. At 100% with no preset it does not touch the tab at all.
