Overview
Study the Korean subtitles of any YouTube video with your Tokki Talk dictionary, review history, and saved word lists.
Tokki Talk & Watch turns the Korean subtitles of a YouTube video into something you can study, without pausing every few seconds to type a word into a dictionary. While a video plays, it reads the Korean subtitle line that YouTube is already showing you and draws it over the player as tappable words. Hover or click a word to see its meaning inline. Each word is also marked by how familiar it already is to you, using your own review history from Tokki Talk, so a word you have studied looks different from one you are meeting for the first time. WHOLE SENTENCES, NOT FRAGMENTS Automatic Korean subtitles arrive in short timed pieces, often only three or four words at a time, which cuts a single spoken sentence across several lines. Tokki Watch stitches those pieces back into the sentence that was actually said, so you read and save a real sentence instead of a fragment. It follows the same rules as the Tokki Talk iPhone app, so a line reads the same way in both places. WHAT YOU CAN DO • Read the current Korean line as interactive words instead of flat text • Read whole sentences, rebuilt from the fragments the subtitle track is cut into • Look up any word inline, without leaving the video • See at a glance which words you already know and which are new • Save a single word, or the whole sentence, to your Tokki Talk account • Follow along with an English line when YouTube supplies one • Load your own Korean and translation subtitle files (.vtt) for a full scrollable transcript • Open a study companion in Chrome's side panel, so it sits beside the video instead of covering it • Pair your iPhone to read the current line on your phone while the video stays on the big screen, and pause or replay from there WHAT YOU NEED Tokki Watch is the browser half of Tokki Talk, a Korean learning app: https://tokki.talk Sign in with your Tokki Talk account to use the dictionary, the familiarity marks, and saving. Words and sentences you save here appear in the same lists you review in the app. You can sign in from Chrome directly, so the iPhone app is optional. You can create an account at https://tokki.talk COMING SOON Netflix support is in development and is not included in this release. This version reads subtitles on YouTube only. ABOUT YOUR SUBTITLES Tokki Watch does not download, export, copy, or store subtitle files. It reads the subtitle line already displayed on your screen as you watch, and keeps it only for as long as you are studying it. When you choose to save a word or a line, only that chosen item goes into your account. Tokki Talk & Watch is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by YouTube, Google, or Netflix.
