It handles the messy reality of how prices actually appear on the web: * Plain amounts: $20, $4.99, $1,234.56 * Abbreviated and spelled-out magnitudes: $5K, $4.2M, $1.2B, “$3 million” * Ranges: $1,000–$5,000 become two token figures * Negatives and accounting parentheses: -$5, ($20) * Complex shopping layouts used by major retailers, including Amazon, where prices are split across multiple elements It also updates live as pages change, so infinite-scroll feeds, dynamically loaded products, and modern web apps continue converting as new content appears. ⸻ IT WATCHES NOTHING. The only information stored is your own preferences (selected pricing peg, custom rate, and display settings), synchronized through your browser so they follow you between devices. Because there is no backend, there is nothing to leak. ⸻ PRICED IN WHATEVER CURRENCY YOU LAND ON The web isn’t just dollars. Tokenized recognizes approximately two dozen of the world’s most common currencies, including: * Symbols: $ £ € ¥ ₹ ₩ ₽ ₪ ₺ ฿ ¢ * Dollar variants: US$, CA$, A$, NZ$, HK$, MX$, R$, and others * Written currencies: GBP, kr, zł, Kč, лв, and more * International number formats including European decimal conventions (1.234,56 € and 1 234,56 €) Foreign currencies are first converted to their approximate U.S. dollar value using a bundled exchange-rate table before being converted into tokens. Exchange rates are intentionally stored inside the extension rather than fetched from the internet. They are updated with new releases and displayed in the popup so you always know when they’re current as of. ⸻ YOU CONTROL THE PEG How many tokens a dollar represents depends entirely on which model you’re imagining. Tokenized lets you choose the pricing peg directly from the popup. * Frontier — approximately $15 per million output tokens * Mid-market (default) — approximately $1.50 per million output tokens * Budget — approximately $0.25 per million output tokens * Custom — define your own dollars-per-million-token rate At the default Mid-market peg: $1 ≈ 666,667 tokens Switch to Budget and that same dollar becomes roughly four million tokens. Switch to Frontier and it shrinks to around 67,000. Watching the entire web change scale simply because you changed your reference point is, in many ways, the whole point. ⸻ HOVER TO SEE THE REAL PRICE Every converted value retains its original amount underneath. Hover over any token figure to instantly reveal the original currency. Disable the extension with a single toggle and every page immediately returns to normal. Nothing about the webpage itself is permanently changed. ⸻ CAREFUL BY DESIGN Tokenized intentionally avoids touching anything that could interfere with browsing. The first working version was built the following day with AI-assisted development, then expanded into a deliberately meticulous internet art project exploring what happens when AI compute becomes visible rather than remaining hidden behind software. The extension is useful. It’s also a joke. Those aren’t contradictions. Tokenized doesn’t try to predict the future. It prototypes a perspective.
