Overview
Hover a link and see the article's description in a balloon. Spoiler alert before you click. Enable it per site.
TL;DR Peek shows you what an article says before you open it. Switch it on for a site, hover any link, and a balloon appears with the page's own description — plus a TL;DR built from the article text itself, so it still works on the many pages that publish no description or a one-line marketing blurb. WHAT YOU SEE • The publisher's description, when there is one • A TL;DR of the article, 1 to 6 sentences (your choice) • Reading time, publication date and byline • The site name, headline and thumbnail PER SITE, NOT EVERYWHERE Previews are off by default on every site. You turn them on one domain at a time from the toolbar popup — the switch covers a whole domain root, so enabling bbc.co.uk covers news.bbc.co.uk too. There is a master switch, an Alt-only mode for link-dense pages, and an adjustable hover delay. EVERYTHING STAYS ON YOUR MACHINE The summary is built inside the extension: the page you hovered is fetched, its text extracted with Readability, and sentences are ranked and picked locally. No server, no API, no account, no analytics, nothing sent anywhere. Your cookies are never sent to the page being previewed, and results are cached for 30 minutes so re-hovering is instant. Stopword lists for English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Croatian/Serbian/Bosnian and Polish; other languages still work. LIMITS, HONESTLY Pages rendered entirely by JavaScript with no server-side HTML have nothing to read. Hard paywalls give you what an anonymous visitor gets — often the first two paragraphs. Browser-internal pages cannot run extensions at all. Open source components: Readability.js by Mozilla/Arc90, Apache-2.0.
